Well I had to find out so I have actually put the I30/Maxima Anniversary Edition muffler on my 2K SE. The numbers are the same as the SE muffler with one exception. The Maxima muffler has 05 as the very last 2 numbers and the I30 muffler has 03 as the last 2 numbers.

The I30 muffler seems pretty much the same as the SE Maxima muffler, but...there does seem to be a slight difference in the sound and response at above 4,000 RPM. Do you think it's the muffler or my imagination? Mmmm...

Tim

What is the full part#?

For 2000:
The Maxima muffler doesn't have a 5 in the part #. I show 20100-3Y370, which is the same for the 2000 I30t. I checked with a 2000 I30 owner (Andi B). I just checked for 2001 at a local dealership, and it's the same, 20100-3Y370. I'm going to call an Infiniti dealer and check with them.

[2nd Addition to my post:] I called 3 different Infiniti dealers and got slightly different answers. Looks like there was a change in the muffler in early summer for the Infiniti. The part # changed to 20100-3Y700. One dealer asked me what month the car was made. Prior to June 2000 it was the same part # as the Maxima. Now we'll have to wait and see what the Limited Edition Maxima has. My guess is that it will have the 3Y700.

[Part 3] My dealer called me up tonight. I brandy new 2001 SE limited had just arrived. Guess, what? Same muffler as a 2000 Maxima. Same part# and it looks the same. Only difference is the tips turn down to fit underneath the new ground effects. I'm calling Nissan to find out where this 5 HP comes from.

Nissan claims the 227HP for the Infiniti for 2 reasons.

1. to better differentiate the I30 vs. the Max. Spend more, get more.(or maybe NOT!!)

2. for bragging rights amongst the 'entry-level' luxury cars. Highest HP before Infiniti's 227HP, was Acura's 225HP w/ the TL (correct me if I'm wrong)

Nissan claims they get the extra HP from the muffler, but with enough people saying that the part numbers are the same and the looks from the outside are identical, the muffler's probably not the reason. Maybe the Infiniti's got a better B-pipe section. I know the max's looks like crap. Or, even easier, would be the placement of the stronger engines into the Infiniti's. Remember, Nissan does run each of their engines before the put them on the car.

who knows? who really cares?? it's ONLY 5 HP.

Mingo is right

When I talked to an Infiniti parts department, they guy recommended getting Greddy. He said it would give you more HP anyway.

I heard the extra 5hp

Is from the I30 ECU. The muffler can't be that much different, since they look the same.

You might be better off getting an aftermarket exhaust. I don't know what the results for the others(Greedy, Stealin', etc) were, but the HKS system made a significant increase over the 2K system.
