wind noise at high speeds
#1
whenever i'm on the highway going over 60 or 70, i hear this loud wind noise inside the cabin...i turn the stereo down and hear this noise and i check and make sure all of the windows are up...they are all up including the sunroof but it sounds like one window is open or something...i don't get any leaking during rain so i don't think its a suction problem

rear passenger door
Mine sounds like the seals on the back part of the door has a leak in it. My sister even noticed it last weekend when she was sitting on that side. I said it was windy, but it really wasn't...
This car is starting to sound like an ML320...Squeaks, bad and worn door seals. All I need now is electrical problems!.

Wind noise
I noticed this also. After looking around, seems like the rear door seal (the one that is on the car, not the door) kind of slides up towards the front of the car. I noticed this because I saw the lip that the seal attaches to sticking out below the seal. It is like they stretched the seal out to get it into position and now it is pulling back. I plan to glue it in place with some silicone RTV or something. Suggestions? Let me know if this doesn't make sense.

its probably the rear...
when i first got the car, my dad wanted to drive it one day, so i let him drive, and i let my mom sit in the front, so i was stuck in the back. keep in mind that the car was new, a couple hundred miles. while sitting in the back, i heard a slight hissing sound (wind) from that little window on the rear window, you know, that little part. you can hear it starting from around 40 mph, and it gets louder as you go faster, but i dont notice the sound while drving, maybe it develops more as the car gets older. just my two cents.

I have noticed this too. Here is how you can try to spot it, thanks to Daniel B. Martin.
I must say that this problem may be comming from both sides since rear passengers have mentioned it.
Get a lentgh of hose or gas line tubing, get someone to either use the hose as a stethoscope while you drive at 60-80 MPH or let someone drive your car... whichever is easier. Run the hose around the door crack and you should easily spot the where the leak is comming from.
I have done a visual inspection of the seals and found nothing, but it does not take much to make alot of noise.

Mine too.... (in case anyone needs further convincing that this is an actual problem)
Above 65mph, you hear it.... it's distracting to people in the back seat...
-Tom
PS.. don't try and take this to your dealer, because I asked about it, and he was like... "Well, we can't drive your car over the speed limit, so we can't replicate your concern"

wind noise
I saw a post on the edmond max forum that the problem was coing from the small fixed window on the rear door. Bad seals and trim. Here is part of the post:
"I posted in here about a month ago about a slight wind noise from my passenger rear door at why speeds. I brought my Maxima in to the dealer, they took a look at it and felt is was the small window in the back door. They had to order some parts (moldings, weather striping...) which took about a month to get in. I had my doubts that they would be able to fix it (joenissan even said he did not think it was the small window) . Anyway they called to say they got the parts, I brought it in and they even gave me a loner car!!! (When I bought my ax they said they don't do loner cars, so I was happy when they gave me one). They had my car all day, the Service advisor even called me at work to update me... he said they brought in a specialist called the "Water Doctors" they specialize in water and air leak detections/repairs, they even had an electronic tool to pin point air noises. It turned out it to be the small window in the back door just like they thought. They said that Nissan must have cut the glass to small or used too thin weather stripping, so they added weather stripping, they even found a very slight air leak on the drivers side and fixed that one as well. The service advisor said they have had two other Maxima (and a few Altima.) owners complain of the slight wind noise at why speeds from the back door area and now they now how to fix it. My Maxima is quite now. Let me know if anyone needs more info or wants to contact my service advisor."

At my next service, I will ask the dealer to look at the air leak in the back quarter window area, if they cannot fix it themselves, I will ask them to call the "Water Doctors" since I don't believe I should pay to fix a manufacturing defects on a car under warranty. What do you guys think, were your Nissan dealer successful in fixing this problem ?

This is a trip. I was notcing the noise this morning and it bothered me a lot. I was goin to put in a thread about it, but I noticed a lot of u guys out there are experiencing the same problem. At first I thought my window was not closed all the way, but it was. How many of you guys have gotten it fixed or looked at by the dealer beside Sascuderi. Cuz my car is sitting at about 39000 and go I don't have the bumper to bumper warranty anymore. That just tics me off, since I passed the 36000 miles theres all these little defects starting to show up.

New TSB
FYI, there is an official Nissan TSB for the rear quarter windows wind leak, I don't know the TSB number though. I took my car to the dealer yesterday, told the service guy about the air leaks in the back windows, and promptly said that Nissan already issued a TSB for that problem, so he special ordered the parts needed (it's some special type of foam seal), then installed those seals the next day. Now my car is real quiet at high speeds, I'm happy with Nissan again.
