Installed Injen CAI, now freaky idle.....

I've had the intake on for about 60 miles and the idle has been odd since I installed it. Basically, no matter if I just goose the gas or am slowing from speed, the tach will stay at 1200-1300 for about 3 or 4 seconds then continue down to regular idle. Basically, I'm driving along and let off the gas, the tach drops normally until 1200rpm, sits there for a few seconds then continues on. Did I do something wrong? This is an auto and I've already checked to make sure the cable is clear, it is. I also disconnected the negative battery hookup when I was installing the intake. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

I would leave the battery disconnected for at least 24hrs. Let the ecu entirely reset itself.

Hasn't it been determined that on the 2k2-2k3s disconnecting the battery doesn't work to reset the ECU?

It worked on mine when i installed my injen (i now have firm fabrications intake). I got an SES light and i left it disconnected for 1.5 days and it went away...no problems.

I can rev normally and drive normally - the improvement is noticable. It's just when it's coming down that I experience the problem. Makes driving in parking lots a little tricky.

Check all the couplers, make sure they are tight and no air is getting out.

Sound like either an air leak, the ecu needs to relean the air fuel curve, or the MAF is on it's way out.. For me it was the MAF back then when I had the Injen.

Thanks for the suggestions, looks like I'll be going back through my install to check for leaks - hope it's that and not the MAF. I'll post once I find out what it is. Thanks again.

One last thing, I noticed that the plastic apron along the bottom of the bumper looks like it blocks airflow. Anyone ever take these black pieces off to free up more room for air to get to the intake? Did it make a difference?

I left the plastic on to ward off water splashing up on the filter. If you remove it, give it a feel after driving in the rain and let us know how wet it is... I'd like to know.

thanks,

thanks,
I've had my enginer cover down there off for about 10K miles. Been through some rain and no problems at all, even some puddles as well. It should be ok, just watch out for deep puddles and the air filter is going to get dirty quicker.

I didn't feel much of a difference, but it made about a tenth or two-tenth second change on my quarter mile.

Since we are on the subject of intakes,Would it be wise to leave the battery disconnected for 24HRS prior the installation of any aftermarket intake???

I would assume that if you disconnect the battery the day before and the next day install the intake, you wouldn't have to wait after installing the intake to start the car up and take it out. The ecu will already be reset.
