Flowmaster 60 Series Muffler Installed On My 2002
I finally got around to having my FlowMaster 60 Series muffler installed on my 2002 Max. I have a PR CAI, WSP 2.5" Y pipe, CarSound Hi-Flow Cat, WSP 2.5" B pipe, 2.5" piping over the rear axel, and the FlowMaster 60 Series muffler. The noise level is extremely tolerable. There is no droning at any RPM range. The car sounds wonderful at WOT, yet still subtle at low RPMs.
If you are looking for a good flowing, but yet quiet, exhaust, the 60 Series should be considered. The following is a list of available 60 Series Mufflers:
1) 2.00" Offset Inlet - 2.00" Center Outlet (Part Number 952062)
2) 2.25" Offset Inlet - 2.25" Center Outlet (Part Number 952462)
3) 2.00" Center Inlet - 2.00" Center Outlet (Part Number 952060)
4) 2.25" Center Inlet - 2.25" Center Outlet (Part Number 952460)
I got the 952060. See FlowMaster's Web Site for more details.
I originally had a MagnaFlow on the car (before the Y/B/Cat upgrade), but removed it after the exhaust upgrade because of the excessive noise and droning. I then installed an Exceleron muffler for temporary purposes (as I had to make a 2000+ mile trip in the car). Once I got back and ordered the muffler, I had it installed.
As for the sound, it's nice. Not nearly as deep as the MagnaFlow, but definitely NOT a ricer sound. It's not a glasspack sound. It's more deep and defined, while reducing interior resonance and droning. I've yet to find a RPM that it drones in. In the upper RPMs, my CAI actually overpowers the volume of the muffler. That's nice because it's very similar to the volume levels of the MagnaFlow (without the Y/B/Cat installed) that I originally had.
And for pictures... I'm still waiting on them. I'm having stainless steel tips installed, but they had to be ordered as well. I've got a temporary tip that was painted black until the final tips arrive.
UPDATE: Sound clips are now available:

i know your 03 is faster than your 04 maxima.. but how does your auto maxima feel compared to your 03?? speed wise?? stock for stock

Studman.. I was thinking awhile back about doing an aftermarket muffler, currently I'm still using stock with a similar setup to yours. Would the noise difference be worth the extra 7 HP or so? As of now, i'm pretty quite, my bpipe has no resonator. I have the crappy WS y pipe as well, injen, etc.

The noise is worth is if the setup does not drone. I got a few clip (check my sig) but mine does drone from 1500-1800rpms only but when cruisin at low speeds it can be anoying but once your goin above 1800 its just deep and I can hear the intake over the magnaflow when 3K is reached at a slow acceleration rate the car just sounds evil IMO, keep in mind ive got the 3.0

mjg: For the 3.5, it's definitely worth it. Your volume may be a little louder because your B pipe doesn't have the resonator, but it should be tolerable. I would, however, keep your stock muffler just in case you don't like it.

Audio clips are now available - See the first post in this thread for the links.
The WAV Version is more accurate and true to the sound.
The MP3 Version is softer in the sound (more muffled).
I posted both so that 56k users will have a chance to hear it without a long download.
(The noise that you hear near the end is the wind blowing. The sound clips were made from inside the car with the windows down. By the time I hit 3rd gear, I was approaching 80 MPH, so the wind was noticably higher than at the lower shift.)

Hmmm, why dont you record it from behind the car at idle once, rev, ect.. That clip you made sounds awesome but I could only hear the intake roar and your tires at the point of breaking traction... non the less still sweet but doesnt catch the exhaust much IMO

The rear clips sounded like crap. It sounded like there was a rock in the exhaust and it was rattling around under WOT. But I'll post them anyway. The rock sound is more than likely caused by the exhaust piping, not the muffler itself.

At Idle, it kinda sounds like a 4.6l mustang. The exhaust sounds mean, but the recordings dont quite do it justice.....
