Speed Control Volume question.

Speed Control Volume question.
**Sorry if this is a repost, been having problems creating threads.
The speed control volume in my car has never worked and i finally took the car in to the dealer to get it checked. They told me that the way the radio works is complex so they rather order a new radio, and that's without even opening anything; just made sure that it was set to HIGH.
My question is, is there a sensor, or something, external to the head unit that could cause the problem?
Thanx

When I turn mine on, it definitely works... there are three settings, "Low", "Med", and "High" which are sensitivity settings according to when you accelerate and when you brake (the more you accelerate on "High", it really does turn the radio up loud, etc).
I think it is annoying... but there definitely has to be external sensors letting the radio know when you are braking heavy or when you are accelerating heavy, etc.

It is sensitive to the speed of the vehicle, not how fast you accelerate or brake. It just seems as though it is doing more because you are changing your speed quicker, so the volume is compensating quicker. It is just more noticeable when you accelerate or brake hard.
These systems typically get an electronic signal from the ECU that corresponds to a range that represents the current speed. The compensation is actually done inside the factory head unit.

If i understand this right, JMF, the head unit is working directly with the ECU, therefore a good working Head Unit should fix the problem?
Thanx a bunch

It's only a Bose feature? How come it's listed as a feature on the non bose system? When going through the car during purchase, the dealer went over that option as well.
Any non bose owners out there have that feature?
This sux if it's not a feature. I guess i'll just keep getting new radios until the dealer tell me that.
j/k I'll take this new one though.

My $.02, its a useless feature that has a high annoyance factor. We need ambient sound volume control, not speed sensitive control. With the windows closed on my car, how fast my car is traveling really has very little impact on hearing the stereo.
Worst example I can think of is standing still with the windows open. Outside traffic will make me raise the volume of my radio. If I close the windows the stereo should automatically lower the volume as the windows have deadened the ambient sound. Instead nothing happens because my vehicle speed has not changed and I'm forced to lower the radio myself. Now start to accelerate from the stop and the radio gets louder even though the interior noise level is the same so again I have to lower the volume. Come back to a stop and the radio gets quieter and now I can't hear it and I have to raise the volume. Absolutely ridiculous feature.

I think it is stupid as well. This feature is one of those things you don't need. Don't we all know that we need to speak louder to other passengers when we're going 70 mph with the windows down vs. 0 mph in the driveway? Same concept...thats why we have two sets of volume controls (which isn't required either).
This is just something else to break.

mine works great...when i get in the max after work and put the windows and the roof down and get o nthe highway, the volume increased is very noticable, when i slow down and come to a traffic light it adjusts back down to normal listening volume.. Maybe i got a lucky head unit as mine works very well and i am glad i have it..HAvent tried on the other two settings but on high it works great

I have a 03, and the speed volume does work. The only time I can really tell is when I hit about 80 mph the volume jumps up 2 notches. I usually keep it on mid, but to tell you the truth it really isn't worth the trouble.
