new exhaust for my 2000 SE

Hey, new to the forum, checked the forum FAQ, and the test site for this thread, but couldn't get a definitive answer so here goes:

I have a 2000 SE 5spd. It now has 50k miles and is in need of a new exhaust. The pipe split in half just in front of the passenger side rear wheel. Not sure where to start replacing, but I would just assume get a cat back setup, but I don't have $600 burning a hole in my pocket. Can anyone help with a setup, for more like max $300? Shold I just go for a Nissan replacement? I have to say that the way it sounds right now is pretty decent. I did see on the forums that the Magnaflow is a pretty inexpensive way to go, but I did not see a specfic setup for the 2000 Maxima. Does anyone have a part number? Also, I think low end torque is good to keep, its my driver and I don't usually rev it too high, usually...

Thanks for the help,

JimL

You can have a custom cat-back made for you for under $300 most likely. Magnaflow mufflers are just that, mufflers. They need to be welded on to the existing exhaust pipes.

Check out this thread for one idea. This catback can be had on ebay or in a group deal for under 300$

if i were you, then i put my money into a budget y pipe then have whatever part is spilt repaired by an exhaust shop. i had piping done for my the cat back, 2.25 right before the stock muffler for 40 bucks. i saw you a thread on an intake so im assuming you want some more performance out of the car and a y pipe is a great way to do that with little noise increase.
