Another MAF Bites The Dust... Even After The ECU Update
Well... it happened again. This is only like the 3rd blown MAF on my 02 Max. I was on the interstate today when I downshifted from 5th to 4th to pass a slow car when..... 2400 RPM fuel cut happens..... GRRRRrrrrr. This was with the 22680-AM600 MAF even AFTER the ECU update and replacement using the TSB. I'm having my service adviser check to see what the deal is with the tech, because I've been MAF OK until I took it in for an oxygen sensor check a week or two ago. It seems like he did the same thing like this the first time it blew too. I took it in for service on Friday and on Saturday it was dead. I'll keep you informed.
To make the story even worse, I'm only 302 miles from 36,000. I've already called the dealer, removed the PR CAI, and reinstalled the stock box. The car will be looked at in the morning. Then they'll have to order me a new MAF and install it when it arrives. It's a good thing it didn't happen a few days later, as I'm putting close to 100 miles a day on the car.
I'll keep this updated as I find out more, but it looks like this may be a heads-up to all of those who think the new MAF/ECU is flawless.

Studman, does your tech (I know it's been 3 or 4 times) replace the MAF tube and sensor (complete unit) or do like mine did and just replace the SENSOR ONLY and leave the original tube in place? Since you've had more hands on experience with these MAF's than anyone here, can you tell me if there is ANY difference in the black MAF's tubes beyween my original 22680-6N200 and the latest 22680-AM600 which I now have? I still have the old 22680-6N200 black tube with the new 22680-AM600 sensor in it.
THANKS!
THANKS!

VQ35DE: My tech has replaced the entire assembly all 3 times. There is not a second part number for the sensor itself on the 2002-2003s like there is for the 2000-2001s. As for the tubes, they are identical, but the assembly is sold as an entire piece, not like the 2000-2001 units which are 2 different parts. I don't know why your tech removed only the sensor alone, unless he ordered the $80 part versus the $300+ part. As far as the sensor itself, there IS a difference between the 2, but there's no difference in the housing.

Studman,
They ordered the entire assembly,I saw the big box.The tech just took the quick, easy and (lazy maybe) way of doing a change. But since I have not seen inside the tubes like you, I thought he may have screwed me over and not even know it if there is a difference in the tubes. I feel better now because I am sure you have looked INSIDE the tubes of all three MAF's, 6N200 & 6N201 & AM600, am I correct? THANKS , VQ35DE

now do you know what is cause the mafs to blow? is it just because they are week and the increase of airflow is blowing it or is it something else? i had the jwt pop charger on mine with an upper pipe and blew one now i just have the pop charger on do you think it will blow again?

VQ35DE: Yes, they are all the same tubing. The only difference is the actual sensor itself. I have also verified this with DaveB.
MaximaSE2002: In a nutshell, it's a sensitive sensor. I've been through 3 of them so far, so it's hard to say if it will fail again. This one was after the ECU update and all, so we'll see.
clipse: Absolutely. I'm gonna start working on that again.
Everyone: The dealer reinstalled a 22680-6N201 on my car because the 22680-AM600 isn't available right now. We'll have to see how that works with the ECU update. I've already discussed it with the dealer that I WILL persue Nissan if it fails again, as they installed a supposedly-known defective part in my car after the TSB was released for it. The intake will go back on the car this weekend, along with yet another ECU reset. Poor ECU gets wiped out every other day.
