Limp Mode? (not accel. stop!)

I went to the track tonight, haven't been all year, figured I should at least go once.

First run I get a SES light. SES went away when I turned it off and then on. Second run, SES light and way reduced power. Again, light goes off after I restart the car.

So now the car is in a "limp mode" similar to that described by fellow org members who had the accel stop problem. But, my VIN does NOT fall in the accelerator stop recall. I can rev the full range, but it sounds and feels like a 4 cyl. I probably couldn't even run a 20 sec ET the way it is. Could this be a MAF problem? But I searched and people said the blown MAF restricted RPM to 2500. I can go to redline, just slowly. Not cool.

I tried resetting my ECU; no good.

Any ideas? I will be taking it to AutoZone tomorrow to pull the codes. Hopefully that will tell me something. And then, of course, to the dealer Monday.

Oh, and BTW, I have no engine mods whatsoever, unless you count Mobil 1 and a drop-in K&N.

Thanks for any help.

Keep us updated on situation of your car, I have been having similar power loss symptoms, minus the SES light. It seems like one of those problems thats extremely difficult to pinpoint. The only engine light I had was P0171, Bank 1 Lean, but hasn't come back on yet. Mine feels normal up till a certain rpm, and then it just dies, it can go up to redline, but the car accels faster from 2k to 3k than from say 5k to 6k.

Well I fixed the car. It was stupid. On my way to Autozone I figured it out. When I started the car it was idling high. Then it stalled a couple times on the way there. The throttle is real inconsistant and rough. I realized the hose clamp to the throttle body must have came off. I had a real rough launch that first time at the track with mad wheel hop, cuz I am out of practice. So some or most of the air was bypassing the MAF. So when I got to Autozone I reattached it and then had the guy pull the codes, and there were none probably because I cleared the ecu. Anyways, problem solved. I just wish I had recognized it sooner, rather than stress about it over the weekend. If you just glanced at the throttle body you wouldn't notice that the intake clamp was loose. But upon closer inspection...

another thing that can come loose is that rectangular tube from the inlet into the airbox. I dont know what it is called. But there is a sliding plastic collar that attaches the two. Mine fell off (or some mechanic didnt reattach it).

And I wont ever use another drop in filter. I screwed up my MAF. All kinds of holes in the powerband resulted. Replaced the MAF and I am good as new.

Glad you solved your problem... I had a negligent incident like that before,... I had the throttle body tube removed cause I was cleaning it.. and went to start the car and it started freaking out so I freaked out.. then remembered...
