AMAZING!!

Thanks Studman!! instructions worked great light is off...hopefully it will stay off.
By the way I'm a new owner of a 2002 SE 6spd Blk/Blk. I've had it less than 10 hours and am very much enjoying it.
Replaced the blower motor today due to noise and when I put it all back together the SRS light wouldn't stop flashing. I was real bummed out. Hopefully it was just needing a reset. Thanks again.

just did this on my 02 i had unplugged the yellow connector behind the glove box.

worked like a charm except when I turned my car on the second time, the light started blinking really slowly. I let it do that for a minute or so then turned the car off then back on and light was out.

Just did this on my 2003 w 69k miles. THANK YOU. Question, my check engine light came on too, after 2 days of airbag light blinking.... do I have to reset the codes for that?

Thanks again.

Additional Information

I searched and found some code information on another Nissan forum:

Airbag error codes:
2= driver's airbag module, module is in the airbag.
6= forward crash sensor, in front of radiator, behind grill
7= airbag computer
8= passenger airbag module

Mine '03 with 70k miles is flashing a code 6 (one long flash, 6 quick flashes, this repeats).

I spoke with this guy Chris at http://www.fivestarairbags.com/ and he was VERY helpful. He said the sensors on Maximas generally don't go bad unless they were damaged in the collision (mine car has not been in a collision). He said to check the contacts and harness - it is most likely the wiring or the electrical contacts - even small issues with the contacts or a pinched wire could do it.

I'm going to try this before spending $248.53 for a front sensor at the dealer (I did find one for 25% off list at AAA Nissan Parts).

Still free is good, if this works - more to come after I try this.

AirBag Codes, Reset Process and Cheap Fix

To follow up on my last message.... by God it worked!

I had a code 6 (see above) that I could not get rid of.

On the recommendation of Chris at http://www.fivestarairbags.com/ I checked the contacts and harness for the front crash sensor (had to take off the grill to do this) - didn't really find any issues but took apart the connector and cleaned the contacts and snapped it back together.

Error code gone!

So if you reset and still get a code, I'd try this before spending good money on parts.

Also, regarding the resetting of the light or entering diag mode for the airbag system: you don't need to wait 4 seconds - there are videos posted on youtube about this and they are right. Just turn on the key (don't start the car) - as soon as the airbag light goes off in 6 seconds, immediately turn the key back to the off position. Don't bother waiting 4 seconds to turn the key back on, 1 or 2 seconds will do. After 3 times, just start the car, don't bother with the start and wait 3 sec and turn off step. It's not needed.

Regards,
Coochmon2

Bummer! the fix only lasted 4 days - maybe the rain had something to do with it, I don't know, but I'm going to install a used front crash sensor from a salvage yard.... better than $240 at the dealer. Sigh.........

Anybody got a Front Crash Sensor for an '02-'03 ??

Searching for a used front airbag sensor for an 02-03 Maxima -

Nissan part number 98581-5Y700
or 98581-5Y710

Something off a similar era I35 would work too.
Thanks,

Nah, I had to pay the price - make sure you buy the bracket with it, cause the bracket and sensor are permanently loctited together and it was ***** got get the old sensor off of the bracket. This fixed me right up, bummer to have to pay $250 for the part though.

Code 7 for airbag computer

So I got another blinking light code a few months ago, and after trying the reset, it was showing one long and then 7 short dashes (see below), making it the airbag computer. I got one on ebay for $35 or so and replaced it, worked like a charm, car is clean of errors now. But getting the console up to replace it was a little chore. At least the trouble shooting codes seem to be accurate.

Airbag error codes:
2= driver's airbag module, module is in the airbag.
6= forward crash sensor, in front of radiator, behind grill
7= airbag computer
8= passenger airbag module

This reset help me to solve the issue

You may have seen my other post about the SRS Airbag light blinking... Man, what a nightmare... I was about to give in and take it to Nissan, pay them $80 (or more) and risk having my car f*cked up while it was in their pathetic hands....

BUT... after searching some more, I found a post by STUDMAN saying to contact him if this happens, and that he has "a technique" which one could try....

So I emailed him.. About an hour later he sends me back an email with his "technique".. What's interesting is this technique was quite different from the traditional "turn off ignition, open and close door 7 times within 10 seconds" kind of thing which everyone already knows about...

So tonight after work I go and try it...

HOLY F*CKING SH*T!!!! IT FREAKIN WORKED!!!!!!

I cannot thank him enough and I am posting this just so he can get the recognition he deserves!!!!

YOU DA MAN STUDMAN!!!! STUDMAN

Words cannot describe how happy I am now!!!!

Here's the technique, proven to work on 2003 Maxima (I'm sure this means 2000+)

Note: Timing is KEY, use a stopwatch if you have to.

1) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
2) After the AIRBAG warning lamp lights for 7 seconds and then goes out, turn IGNITION off within 1 second.
3) Wait 4 seconds
4) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
5) After the AIRBAG warning lamp lights for 7 seconds and then goes out, turn IGNITION off within 1 second.
6) Wait 4 seconds
7) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
8) After the AIRBAG warning lamp lights for 7 seconds and then goes out, turn IGNITION off within 1 second.
9) Wait 4 seconds
10) Turn IGNITION on (but don't start car)
11) Wait 3 seconds
12) Turn IGNITION off
13) Wait 2 seconds
14) START Car
15) Turn IGNITION off
16) Wait 2 seconds
17) START Car

AIRBAG warning lamp should blink for 7 seconds and then go out and never come back on. If it does, then you have a problem.

STUDMAN
Thank you it is help me

Kinda funny that this old thread gets bumped every few years, but it saddens me that the impact sensor used to be only $250. It's over $500 now and mine recently went out
