Rattling sound when I press the accelerator

Allright guys and gals, this is my first post so bear with me.

I have a 2000 Maxima GXE, (or whichever is the least ). I have just recently been hearing a rattling noise comming from somewhere underneath my car in the pedal region when I press the accelerator pedal half way down at about 60-70 mph. It dosen't rattle below those speeds and rarely above them. It's not comming from inside the cab, so I'm stumped. Anybody have any similar experience and can give me some advice?

also, if my car is past the 3 ye 36,000 mile warranty, do the service bullitens still apply to me... my car is not shifting like it should... How much of a problem is it to get it fixed? Cost?

Thanks,

D-DAY

Just wanna let you know that it could be from using cheap gas. My 03 did that until I started using premium.

I dont think it is the gas thing...I always use Texaco premium..Used it in my old car and never had a problem , so i know its not the station...I am thinking about tryin the stp fuel injector and carb treatment...My dad said something about he had the same problem with his lexus, and they cleaned the fuel injectors and it seemed to be fine after that..I just dont wanna waste my money on a nissan cleaning..but i guess if it comes down to that , they will need to...Lemme know anything else comes up...late

Try chevron techron fuel injector cleaner. Its probably twice as much as STP but from personal experience i feel its well worth it. It was reccomended to me by my best friend's dad who is a mechanic.

check the shield on the cat, it may be loose. Get under the car and take a look.

I find that Sunocco 94 & Ammoco/BP 93' (same product) are good gasolines for "my" engine. Your symptom of rattling noise, if excessive can be harmful to the engine. I suggest you should get a professional fuel injector/throttle body cleaning done soon. From what I've heard, most reputable dealers/mechanic shops use B&G products for the aboved services. Good luck!

yep, a few bolts hold it on. Also check the precats as they have plates (that should be) welded on. Take a look for anything else that may be loose, before you go crazy.

Im telling you, I bought my maxima brand new and put regular unleaded in it and it ratteled like a son-bit** I thought I had to bring it in to the dealership. Someone on here suggested 93octane and it hasnt ratteled since. Even though you probably need to clean your injectors, I dont think that is the cause of the problem. The prpblem is your engine knocking. Use cheveron techron 93 octane gas.

UPDATE:

I have been using 92/93 octane gas from Texaco and Chevron and the car has yet to rattle. I am gong to go exclusively with the Chevron since she likes it a little better. Probably the most expensive fix I'll ever have over the long haul, since it is 20 cents more per gallon. Oh well, as long as she treats me good, I'll treat her to the good stuff.

I just want to let you guys/gals know that it works and to spread the news. Thanks you all for the help. I appreciate all the replies.

PrHigher octane gas over the low octane gas in cars that asks for it will give you not only better mileage per volume of gasoline used, but also better power, so it's not like that $.20 is blown. You may recoup 5-10 cents in better mileage anyway.

I've had a rattling for a while. 2000 se. I only use 91 or 93 (91 is almost impossible to find). My rattling occurs on the highway particularly in third gear and only when accelerating around 70 mph or so. It's not from under the pedal but somewhere near the front of the car. It's difficult to describe and I once found somebody else post with the exact same rattle, but nobody here has been able to offer any ideas on what it could be. I suppose maybe I could tighten some bolts around if I knew what to tighten

its the $1,000,000 question..the rattle is un explainable...at least from my point of view..people say its the gas...but i dont know what to think...it comes and goes like its on vacation...im want it outta here!!!

In my opinion (which is not saying to much)
It sounds like a loose hanger on the exhaust. I say this because my car is making a noise similar to what you described and i'm pretty sure thats it. My rattle only occurs sometimes at lower speeds around the same rpm.

I was having the same problem and one of my friends said it could be the valves clapping or knocking or something like that.
