solution to ping/knock

Hey guys

For those of you that have the pinging/knocking problem..... After taking my car in for the 6th time they finally got it right!!! All that needs to be done (in my case anyway) is to set the base idle back 2 degrees. Now, this is NOT the same as setting the timing back(for those of you who don't know) Have your dealer check that out and it MAY be the solution for you.

Thats interesting. So, if they set your idle back, what does your Max idle at now? Does the car feel the same, just without the ping?

I don't ever get knocking/pinging on the idle. Only on heavy loads in 2nd or 3rd gear at 2000-2500 RPM. Was that the same scenario you had??

it's about 50 rpm lower right now, hardly noticeable. It might be imaginary since I've had all this crap going on and I just want the car to drive better, but it seems to be pulling nice and even throughout the whole rpm range. This approch doesn't make any sense to me either but I don't really care since it cured the ping.

Same as you and everyone else with this problem. As I said in the above post, this approach doesn't make any sense, but it works.

Thanks, I'm going to give it a shot at the dealer. Did they charge you for it, or threw it in becasue you've been there so frequently?

I've got 10k on the odo, so it's still warranty.

Funny thing is, when I do take my car into the dealer for them to check that, they'll have to look at every other solution first...

This could take a few weeks...
