not 100% about this but sometimes when I floor it to speed up only the rpm revs up but the car's speed doesn't pick up til' couple seconds.....is this a sign that the trannies going?

I presume you have a standard transmission in which case this is almost certainly a sign of clutch slipping (time for a new clutch). If you gently accelerate it probably accelerates as normal right? It's just that when you trounce the throttle then the RPM jump without an appropriate lurching of the car?

Ballpark is probably $500-800 for a new clutch. How many miles on the car?

yep, i notice that on my crappy tranny. the gear downshifts, but only like a second later you start feeling the torque. and sometimes when i downshift, it reves a little more then it should and then kicks into gear
