Windo pillare (Tweeter) ??

Does anyone no if the 2000-2003 no-Bose equiped maximas have the grill on the window pillar molding (tweeter located). I have a 2003 with Bose, and have replaced my tweeters, but the imaging (firing down at dash) is horrible. I don't think there is anyway to flush mount the tweeter into the factory grill on the pillar and make it look right. If the non-Bose cars do not have the grill, it would be easy to do. Hope some one has an answer.

Thanks,
Shane

Hey man, I think I can help you out. I have a 2000 with frost interior and I replaced all my speakers in my car and I had the bose. I had my new tweeters mounted on the door panels so I went to the nissan dealership and bought the pillars that a 2000 GXE with the base stereo which DO NOT have the little grills. Now I dont know if they come in other colors other than gray (which is what I have so it wasnt a problem). It should work, it was a pain trying to get the part number out of the dealer guys tho because they told me it couldnt be done, so what I had to do was find a 2K GXE without the tweeters on the pillars and get the vin number and bring them the vin to prove them wrong. If you need any more help, lemme know, Ill try to help more but I hope this answers your question. Good luck.

I have a 2K2 SE non-bose and it does have the tweeters in the pillar and of course the grills. Most tweeters you buy are able to be swiveled to where you want them. At least my infinity Kappa componects allowed this.

Thanks, Steve. I figured that the GXE cars without Bose proabably had just the pillars without grills. My interior is black, but the pillars are grey like the headliner. Man if you have that part number, that would be fantastic. Any idea what you paid for those??? I think my JL tweeter would sound a lot better if I could swivel them toward the front glass.

Thanks,
Shane

Sounds good Dan. My buddy has a 2000 with frost interior, but pillars are grey, I'm going to see if color matches. I'm 99% sure it will. Mine are in perfect shape, but I'll take a couple of pics for you.
I'm probably going to order some factory headliner material and cover yours in that anyway, but I hope yours are in good shape. I'll have pics tomorrow. Thanks again.

why not just drill new holes? The a-pillar is a sheist spot for the tweeter anyhow. I just got the hole drill bit and drilled holes in my door. Sounds much better putting the tweeter closer to the midrange..

That was going to be a solution, but my crossover network is on my amp rack and I didn't want to have to run wire in the door for the tweeter (drill holes in the door). I'm thinking with the new pillars I can use the swivel mount for my tweeters and get better imaging.

hey man. I believe the pillars are the same color all the max's, I dunno about the 2k2-2k3s but they are probably the same color. I can try to get you those part numbers if you really need em, the thing is that im out at school right now and the boxes with the part numbers are at home somewhere. I can def get em for ya next week when im home for thanksgiving, or maybe i might be able to call my mom at home and she can look for em.

If you do want to run new speaker wires you DO NOT have to drill holes to do it.
All you have to do is poke a hole in the door side factory molex connector in the boot. You can do it at the top or bottom of the connector. To get your wires into the cabin you must open your car door all the way. Go outside your car and look into the crack of your open door. You will see an empty black grommet that is located just forward of the factory molex connector that goes into the cabin. Just straighten out a clothes hanger and poke the grommet into the cabin. It will allow you to run the speaker cable into the cabin directly into the area behind the kickpanel. I did both of my front speakers that way, I wrapped the speaker wire in black split wire loom and it looks like the factory put it there. Hope this helps if you decide to run the speaker wire to the front door.

Thanks, for the pics guys. This morning I pulled my pillars and took a look at my swivel mounts, basically to make a long story short, I was able to get the tweeters exactly faced the way I wanted them underneath my factory grills. It took a slight tweak with a hammer, but worked great. Sorry Dan, looks like I won't be needing the pillars after all. I appreciate the help though. Thanks for everyones input and pics.
