Race: Can I win??

A friend of mine just bought a '04 TL and wants to race my '02 GLE. Do I have any chance in winning this race? I know it depends on the driver, but i'm asking as if both cars were driving themselves. I know the new TL is fast. Has anyone raced the new TL yet?

It should be very close....maybe the TL my a hair. It'll definately come down to a drivers race. Granted that he is auto also.

...getting in before the lock.

auto vs auto, dead heat. stick vs stick, dead heat. drivers being equal. i would race only from a dig, dont go from a 30+ mph roll on, you will get beat, Acuras are known to have "longer legs", they really get cooking up top.

There is no way in hell a stock '04 TL can beat a '02 Maxima. Their Quarter Mile is longer and they way more. The 0-60 is also worse.

I know it's not really the same thing, but.........

I raced a last gen tl with a Toyota Solara V6 5spd, from a dig, and from a roll, and I owned him both times, and my autotragic 2k max owns the Solara, so..........

the new TL stock is only 15 more but if you run him from a roll in second at about 40 you should take him cause thats right around 4k and for him its only like 2500

I'm usually a VQ35 homer, but a stock 6MT TL traps 97-99 mph, so yeah, TL can and will beat on Auto VQ35 Maxima and its a toss-up with the 6MT VQ35 Maxima.

I realize the 5AT TL runs nowhere close to 99 mph in the trap (more like 94 mph), but you sorta made a generalized statement.

Im in no way a mag racer, but pick up new issues of MT and C and D, you will see those TL's are brutally quick, to put it mildly.

My friends brother just got his TL a month ago, it has 2400 miles on it. It's an automatic. We were bar-hopping and I was hoping to catch a red light that never came. We did have a nice run on the Tollway though......

I was staying glued to his *** at around 70-75 with my car in 3rd while we weaved through some traffic. As soon as we cleared I heard him go and so did I, I wound out third and almost went all the way through 4th (I'm guessing that's about 110-115, too fast to look down for me) and I managed to make up the car I was down at the start and put 1 on him. Fun race!!

After the next bar we were going to go to a 3rd and he asked me if I wanted to switch cars...SURE WILL!! That TL is sweet. It has 5.1 DVD sound that sounds better than most home theater surround-sound systems. Awesome seats, cool as hell dash and Nav screen.....and lots of go under the right foot. I can only imagine how much fun the 6-speed must be. C&D got a 14.4@99 out of one, not too shabby. The 04 TL has a good chance of being my next used car after I wear the Maxima out in a good 3 or 4 years.

Later,

S.L.

Not trying to tell you guys how to run your site, BUT.....why would you have to lock a thread like this? It's a nice civil discussion about Maxima's & their competition.

You will loose big... Car and driver said the manual can get 0-60 in 5.7.... good luck.

I'm really happy that some of you really take pride in your maxima. But when it comes to fact, you can't say that an apple is not an apple. Let's face it, the new TL has 270 hp and out 2002 has "255" hp? More like 240? Granted the TL is 200-300 lbs heavier, but it'll still win or at least run equally fast compared to our 2002/2003 Maxima.

Just race and find out!

Hi my name is.... what my name is... who my name is...

He right, best way is to race and find out.... I can pull out mag times, but its always a drivers race when the HP numbers a close... but let me tell you this, i got owned by my friends 2002 tls on the highway after 80 mph, and the new 04 has smaller gear ratios in some gears... and i heard some of the older tls guys (stock) loosing to the 04s.... so dont get cocky, and dont get dissapointed no matter what the outcome.
