SES light
SES light
My SES light has been on for about two weeks now and I know what the problem is. It is my exhaust. A brief history on the car: It is a salvage title car that was involved in a flood. The car is configured for the California Emission Standard. The ECU was damaged in the flood and was replaced with a standard ECU. Therefore due to a mismatch, I get bad exhaust codes. I live in Nebraska and there are no emissions standard so it would be a waste of money to spend 1000 dollars to correct the problem.
This morning, the SES light turned itself off. Can it do that? Is this good news or is there a problem waiting to happen? I always thought if a light comes on, the only way to turn it off was to clear out the codes.
Thanks!

So you're saying you have a FED spec ECU in your Cali-spec 2000 Maxima and it acts fine except for the SES light?

According to what the dealership said yes, I do have a FED spec ECU my Cali spec 2000 Maxima. From what I was told, the FED ecu cannot process the extra rear O2 sensors causing it to trip exhause codes. The light was off this morning and I didn't do anything out of the ordinary to cause that to happen. The car runs great, I have not experienced any problems since having the coils replaced.

Thanks that's VERY very good news for the Cali-spec 2000s that might be wanting a TechnoSquare ECU someday.
Sorry, not really helping you.

I have no idea. Would that put out an error code? The only error code I get when the SES light comes on as of late, are exhaust codes.....
