Rotten Egg Smell

Yeah, i notice that when i get out my max after driving it, i smell a sort of rotten egg smell, also sometimes when im sitting in it. Ive also noticed that ive lost power and my engine runs rough, the gas pedal vibrates a little also on mid throttle revs. got 59,500 miles on it, 00 Auto. Any real noticeble results with getting the spark plugs and fuel filter changed?? Please help. Dealer told me today that everything is fine, they just put in a new drop resistor for transmission but i know how my car is supposed to drive and it shouldn't be that sluggish.
Please help

Sounds like a catalytic converter failure to me.

I agree, rotten egg smell usually means good-bye catalytic converter. Also means good-bye a few hundred bucks too.

Should be covered under your emmissions warranty

A rotten egg smell from the exhaust is usually not a sign the cat is going bad, it is a sign that you are using cheap gas with a high sulfur content.

What Mastertec said, a common problem with cheaper fuels. Sulfur content a problem where i live and with some of the cheaper aftermarket converters the egg smell is VERY noticeable. OEM converters mucho bucks but tend to do the job much better than aftermarkets if you are thinking of installing one. Sumpin' you have to live with sometimes.........

I had the same problem except my rotors went at same time. Sulfur smell+SES light+bad vibrating when braking=new coil, resurfaced front rotors and -$300.

Does a clogged fuel system produce the same smell because i have let the gas tank run too low a couple of times within the past two months?

I'd check my O2 sensors before you start changing the catalytic convertor. I had the same problem, and one of the O2 sensors was the culprit.

try going to pep boys, they sell a product that you add to your gas tank that will help elimiate the rotten egg smell. I had the same problem with a Ford I owned years ago it it did help the problem. YOu only have to do it once.
