20% Tints in around Fairfield County (CT) No problems what so ever...so far, but i still do have light interior which doesn't look AS dark as it would with black interior.

tints

i live in miami fl. we cant have n e thing too dark the cops r scrubs about it. i got limo all around for about a month now n no probs i got stopped for speeding n dey still didnt say n e thing
what i do though is i usually have my windows down just because i like it but when i dont i open my sunroof so light shines in and that way they can see your face from the outside if theres light inside they are not too dark.
no prob for tints so far just racing damn pigs!

so "pigs have nothing better to do" then bust your dumb @ss for doing something illegal. here is a novel idea. dont break the F'n law.

i have 20% all around never been pulled over, even though it is illegal here in virginia (35% i think). i still have my car registered in oklahoma where it is legal.

Sorry, but getting pulled over solely for your tint is pretty lame if you ask me. (especially when your windows are halfway down)

Now, if I was swerving all over the road or speeding....thats more understandable... but i guess i brought it upon myself to get that tint...Still getting searched for no apparent "probable cause" still ****es me off

so getting pulled over for having "illegal tint" is wrong? bottom line, it is illegal. be a man and admit it.
why cant people own up to stuff. i have clearcorners knowing they are illegal. so if i get pulled over, ill pay the ticket like a man since i made the decision to have "illegal" lights.
they dont need "probable cause" to search your car. they could search every car if they wanted to. and their "hunch" was right since you had something illegal in your car.

Gotta agree here with soonerfan.....no need to ***** about getting caught doing something illegal. If you speed, you know it's illegal (even if you're on an empty highway in the middle of nowhere)...so you can't cry if you get a ticket. Dark tint, clear corners, aggressive driving, speeding...hey we all know the laws, and shouldn't be upset if we break them and get caught...as to your "search and arrest" issue...well, that's illegal too, so again, you take a risk if your are going to use/possess it.

I'm not gonna get into "is the law fair or right or whatever" discussion. Some are (drunk driving, reckless driving, machine guns sticking out the front of your car like james bond, etc...) and some are not (too-low speed limits, certain tint laws, etc.)...

But you just gotta deal with it. Follow the law or risk the consequences....Or visit your congressman or senator and lobby him/her to change the tint laws, mary jane laws, etc....

Hey you know when your tint is illegal or that you shouldn't be carrying pot in your car....just like you know when you're going 30-over on the highway that you could get a reckless driv. ticket.

Or just look at the tradeoffs...is the $30 (or whatever it was) ticket for tint worth it? Maybe it is to you...maybe $30 is a decent price to pay to keep the sun off your interior or to look cool....

...always a trade-off....

damn now off my soapbox.....sorry.

and one last thing....don't blame it on the cop. Do I get ****ed at cops, radar traps, etc? Hell yeah, sometimes.

But in the "big picture" they are there to make our lives safer by getting drunk drivers, murderers, rapists, etc... off the streets.

I give props to cops because, even though they are annoying to me sometimes, they have a difficult, dangerous job and the pay is ****

thank you irish, I think I made a snide remark towrads this guy in my reply to this post. This is the 3rd thread this week I've had to say something about the cops not being the problem. I have crazy illegal tint, I sometimes drive at stupid speeds. You won't hear the word "pigs" from me. those using the term should be banned.

rant complete

Hi guys and gals, first time poster..I drive a 2K gxe.

I got 35% sides and 20% rear ... apparently TX state law. Personally, I wouldn't want it that much darker, since the car is the sunlit sand colour. Anyways, in Dallas, it gets really hot anyways, so the tint is necessary, especially on a gxe. oh yeah ... knock on wood.

I always tinted my cars to 20%

Evidently, 20% actually measures to around 12.5%.

In 3-4 years of driving tinted cars, I never got an actual ticket.. *knocks on wood* but i got 2 warnings..
Once at a check point and another time I was pulled over for like 3 other things Still no ticket but the cop pulls out this little white box with a digital clock on it. Instructs me to roll my window down half way and puts the box to the edge of the window, it reads 12.5%.. Legal in NY is 70% for side windows, and you can have whatever you want on the rear, the windowshield can also only be tinted 6 inches from the top, no lower. I still got off ticket free that time.. cop said remove it ASAP.

I just went through a check point yesturday, rolled both front windows down. No problems.

My current max has a "slate" film.. which is less see through than regular black tint, it's supposed to be around 15-20%, which is probably around 10% in reality. At night it's like Limo. On a sunny summer day, it's slightly see through, On a rainy, gloomy day, it's like limo. I love it.

In my 03 Max, i haven't got pulled over for it (20% Titanium). Although, in my 91 300zx i just sold, i got pulled over a few times(20% smoke). I have a police shield in my window and some family member PBA cards that helped me from getting tickets. I really think it depends on the car and how bored the cop is.

but doesn't change the fact that if you are not doing anything illegal, it's a good bet that the cops won't give you any tickets or arrest you. Pretty simple concept. Be a good boy and you won't get slapped on the wrist.

GSUmax....
Man, first let me say that your ride looks tight.
On the flipside, look at it this way....you are lowered, black/chrome rims, look "fast"...not to mention you have illegal tint and clear side markers, so you shouldn't be surprised at all that you get pulled over...

But damn that's a sweet ride.

thanks alot man appreciate it, but your right, my car does get targeted, because just last night, i got pulled over again, and this cop said he had no reason for pulling me over, just a random check for DUI's and he asked if he could search my car. This time i was a good boy and he searched and found nothing so i went on my way, but it sucks that the main reason i got pulled over is probably for the way my car looks.

Reason #1 I'm hesitant about getting tint....black car with tint = seems to get pulled over more often.....trying to keep my ride fairly stock outside, but mod where it counts (under the hood/suspension) and where I am (inside)....Less likely to get stopped if you look like a middle-class family sedan....Like I posted here or somewhere else....I have a cop buddy that says he is more likely to pull over tinted cars (aftermarket tint) since if you tint you more likely have something to hide....guess there's always tradeoffs....tint +1 hiding your system, keepin the car cool, looking good....no tint +1 look less suspicious....

...it seems to be a problem everywhere, judging by the responses here. Then again, maybe the number of people who speed/drive recklessly is just disproportionately high among .org members compared to the general population ...so maybe that could account for all the pull-overs, not the tint...

It depends on your state's law, but in most states the police can't stop you without a reason. They can only do it if you break the law (i.e. tint or speeding.)
For example, about a month ago a guy who got caught DUI won in court. He was caught at a roadblock, but since roadblocks are illegal in IL his attorney argued that the evidence was obtained illegally. Hence the charges were dropped, even though everybody knew that the guy was driving drunk.
Also during the holidays, we had few roadblocks here in SD, but in a TV report they clearly stated that there will be signs and a possibility of exiting before a roadblock.

30%, moron at the inspection place made me take off the front tint last summer AFTER he put the inspection sticker on.... I wont tell the whole story, makes me angry again. Anyways, other than that mechanic on a power trip, no problems ever.
5% on my old car, passed inspection with it (at a more friendly garage) and never had any cop problems

find a friendly/shady doctor that can diagnose you with a skin or eye condition which demands for you to have your windows tinted. You can then get permission from the state DMV to have tinted windows without getting ***** busted over it. I think they give you some sort of sticker on your registration that specifies this.

i am still looking for shady doctors
