cleaned throttle body, now SES light..HELP

i cleaned my throttle body and replaced a dirty air filter today. the car runs a lot better, i got back a lot of low end that i thought i was missing. only problem is that my SES light turned on when i started the car. i unplugged the battery and will try restarting her in a few hours but in the meantime does anyone know what this may be due to? i went back and made sure i tightened everything etc.

Unsure... please take it to Autozone for them to pull the code once it comes back on!

unplugging the battery doesn't always reset the ECU...

follow these instructions to do that, and if the light stays on/comes back on, then bring it in for diagnosis.

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” (DO NOT actually start the car, just turn the key to "ON") and wait 3 seconds.

2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.

2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.

3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10
seconds until the CEL starts blinking.

4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)

5. Wait about 10 second.

6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.

7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).

8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.

If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU.

Did you spray any cleaner into the MAF assembly? If so, you may have caused some damage to it. Also, did you get any cleaner into any of the electrical connectors around the throttle body?

you have to decide for yourself.

thanks for the help! this did the trick. went for a drive and the light didn't come back on again either.

pearl white max - you will get differing opinions on whether a throttle body cleaning should be done, but after having done mine at 20K miles, it helped noticeably (most of my miles are city miles and i drive kinda, but not too hard...my car may see 5500rpm+ once a week on average)

i followed the directions on the link above and it's not too hard. i'm not very mechanically inclined and wasn't too bad.
