dataDots

i just bought my 03 maxima, and it has a dataDot sticker on my headlights, what does it do?
i read it in the forum where its harder for thieves to steal them.
so how does it work?

We're all waiting to see if it works.

North Jersey and parts of central it seems now are being hit really bad with folks taking the HID headlights. Unfortunately, they are really easy to take from the '02 and '03 max. They cost $1300 + to replace, or whatever your deductable is.

Read through some of the threads and you'll see, it is really bad in NJ and probably the reason the person who originally owned your car traded it in.

The dataDot recall is also around here somewhere. The basics are, they put some invisible way of IDing the lights on the lenses I beleive. They also secure the lights better and there are a few more steps taken to better secure the lights.

Best thing you can do is garage the thing, especially if you live near newark or union.

They install metal brackets to hold the lights in place in addition to the plastic tabs. It is also rumored that they separate the ballasts from the headlight housing to render them useless if taken.

Can someone post pictures of what the DataDot stickers look like on the car? I live near Philly and I got the letter about them being free a few weeks back but I'm not sure if I'm going to do it or not. I already installed the custom bolts that I bought from TimW on the HIDs and I'm all for adding another bracket to protect them even more but I don't want cheesy looking stickers on my window or my headlights. Thanks!

You may want to rethink that... Those cheesy stickers may someday save your car from getting damaged.

The stickers look like my sig pic, but all silver.

The jury is still out on that one. Do you honestly think HID thieves look for that sticker before they start prying away at the front of a Max? Let alone even knowing what it means. I think it's far more likely that they hit the metal bracket and give up, but at that point they've probably already done some damage.

No kidding!!! That's why I wanted to see them on a car...to get a feel for how big they are, where they are located, color, etc.

I'm not calling them intelligent by any stretch of the imagination. However, just like Chimps they learn from their mistakes. After confronting a few datadot protected cars, I'm sure they'll figure out which ones will give them trouble and which ones won't. I personally wouldn't want to be driving around without the stickers then... would you?

I have window tint. Do the stickers go on the inside or outside of the window?

I'm afraid they are on the inside... Perhaps the dealer will not install the wndow sticker since you have tints.

I have the window stickers on the inside of the window. I also have window tints but I still left the stickers on. You can take the stickers off if you want, they won't ruin your tints.

I don't know what you mean "in the HIDs." If you are referring to under the hood, I don't want to get into details about what the recall involves. I have not taken the lights out since so I have no idea whats done under the hood.
