I hae a dilemma with my max...

Alright, so here's the deal as far as I can tell.. I have a 2k max and need to replace the o2 sensor, front left.. ok, yeah that's an easy one. I noticed when I floor it from start it will not shift until I take my foot off the pedal and if I floor it later at any time it lags and actually slows down. I took it to the dealer thinking that it may be the slippage thing and they said "We'll check it out" Ok, so I come back the next day and they say that the Tranny needs to be replaced and it'll be about $1400 for a salvaged one then about $1200 for the work to replace it. The car has about 87000 miles on it, is it normal for the transmission to give out that quick? Also, I noticed sometimes when I floor it at a low gear and it doesn't shift it may start to jerk back and forth.. I'm concerned because I don't have the money to replace the trnasmission and I have to move to New York in about a week because I'm going to my next duty station (in the Navy). I'm still in school.. anyhow, I need some opinions please. Anything would help me out.

Second opinions from other shops on something like this is a good idea.
