Internet Purchasing vs Dealer

I've just sold my 92 5spd Black Maxima GXE and looking to purchase a 01 AE 5spd Grey Lustre within the next one month as soon as I also sell my Beloved 1987 Bullet Silver Toyota Pickup truck that's @ 187,000k and still able to get to 90mph!
After alot of research on the internet and visiting a couple of dealers (a gagging experience, most of the sales 'consultants' have no idea what the internet has to offer to new car buyers and have no clue on how to handle a well informed customer) I'm hoping to purchase and finance the new Max all over the net.
My ? is , has anyone here done the whole deal over the internet or even just the purchasing aspect, and what were your exeperiences. How are the one service sites ? ie you put in your specs and dealers compete for your business, do they always find the exact car specs you are looking for ?
etc whatever info will be helpful

I haven't personally, but a guy I work with bought an A4 from carorder.com (back when they were still in business). He lives in the Boston area, and the dealer that ended up getting the car for him was in NY - they shipped it on a flatbed. He got the exact specs he was looking for on the car.

I bought my 98 Max through a dealer after doing my homework online. I walked into the dealership with invoice price and online financing in hand. The dealer ended up beating the online deal including the financing and all it took was 15 minutes.
Two days ago I bought a 2001 Maxima GLE. I walked into the dealership and put the offer on the table. Take it or leave it. He took it. This is one hell of a nice car.

I went to several dealers in the Memphis area, and haggled all day and finally went to Murdocks Nissan in Memphis armed with numerous invoice printouts and financing options. The dealer sold the car below invoice and provided a better interest rate than I found on the web. It was the most pleasant car buying situation I've ever had. Just arm yourself with good information and tell the salesman to skip the BullShi* and everything should go well, If they start any BS get up and leave, there are more dealers willing to make a sale.

I bought my 2001 SE throught carsdirect.com. I paid $300 over invoice. Although I may have been able to get a better deal negotiating with a salesperson, I didn't want to go through the trouble. The process was very easy. You pick out what you want on the computer and leave a deposit (the carsdirect guy didn't charge my account and said the deposit thing is just a way to keep away those that are not serious). A guy called me the next day with some choices. If they find what you want, you go to a participating dealer, do the paperwork and drive off. I heard recently, though, that carsdirect.com was having some financial difficulty.

I bought my 2001 SE through Priceline and it was quick and simple. Make a low bid and if a dealer agrees to price you pay $50 (?) fee to priceline. In and out of dealer in 45 minutes with no hassling. Dealers can also counterbid price or colors but you do not have to buy unless it is an exact match. Lowball them and see what counteroffers you get. Nothing lost if they do not accept your bid and you get a good idea of what you should be paying.

CARSDIRECT.COM
Nobody in the Florida area wanted to sell the 20TH Anniversary SE for less than window, some even more. Carsdirect.com found the Majestic Blue (only 300 or so made) and sold it to me for dealers invoice, no mark up. They even found a loan rate that was below market, and I manage a bank !!!. If you go that route ask for Vern, he was quick precise and knew of these wonderful cars !!! They ship car to your door, and only after seeing product and test driving do you accept deal.....wow

I would use the internet as reference tool and part of my bargining tool. I love driving my 2k1 AE fully loaded but the little problems are very annoying(eg. stone chips on my 2month old vechile, dirt grime and other things in the fuel filler lid(I have brought my vechile in for service but the service manager is unaware of any fixs or the splash guard as per another thread on this form). I just brought my car into the touchless car wash and notice water coming in under the glove compartment area and a little bit through the sunroof.)

Internet Sales
Internet is the way to go, particularly for educated shoppers. I started out via the Nissandriven site, ended up getting hooked up with my dealer via autoweb. I had also obtained pre-approval for my financing through Nissan, also a quick process (less than 5 minutes, really). As a result, there was none of that hassle at the dealer.
The dealer knew what I wanted, found it, called me when it was driven in. I walked in, signed the forms, and drove my car home. It was almost TOO easy.
Fortunately for me, this dealership (Hippodromecars.com) in Nashville has a sales rep 100% dedicated to internet, and he is no jokester. It was the best car buying experience I've ever had, and will never do it any othe way.

I purchased my 2K Maxima SE from WWW.carsdirect.com and it was the only way to go. I got a great deal and got the car exactly the way I wanted it (color and options) without having to step into a dealers lot and have to deal with a scum bag salesman. It's so simple you just pick your color and options, enter your credit card number, they call you the next day to confirm your order, arange for financing if needed and within a couple weeks the car is delivered to your driveway clean as a whistle and with a full tank of gas, it's that simple, try it you will like it.

I ordered my Maxima through them. It was about $300 or so over invoice, but worth it not to have the hassle, and to get exactly what I wanted.
I swear by them. At a minimum, you can use them to research a price that you can get certain car for.
