NEW "MAF" INSTALLED AND WOW!!!!!!
#41
Hey guys, quick question, how do you tell if your car needs the newer maf or not? My dad just gave me his 2001 gle (build date 10/2000).
I found both of these maf's listed on Jerry Rome Nissan's page:
MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR
Add to Cart Application Part number List Price Our Price View Item
Add All applications 22680AD201 $488.19 $414.96 14
Add All applications 226802Y001 $103.58 $88.04 14
What's the diff between the two. I looked at my maf, but I couldn't find the part number. Looks like I will have to remove it to see which one it is.
Thanks.

I have 3 of 22680-AD210 MAFs just incase my current updated MAF craps out- knock on wood, its been alright for almost a year now. I am on my 5th MAF now. My 3 extra MAFs cost me 56 bux each- and yes they are the same ones they list on that website for 400 bux. Some Nissan dealers are clueless as to what U can and can't get seperatelly. If they only knew how to order parts right... When I worked for Nissan I found alot of JDM parts in their parts catalogue that no one knew about- like Sentra SE-R JDM rear rotors that use 3rd gen 92-94 Calipers. Basically same rotors as a 3rd Gen Maxima but drilled for a B13 SE-R. Never sold in the US but listed in the parts fiche. I got a set of HIDs from them for 120 bux each when the 02 Max came out

What the hell?!? 5th maf? Are these maf's (22680AD201) destined to fail? I have no problem coughing up $90 (226802Y001) to prevent a headache down the road if I know for sure that this will solve the potential problem.

Will this new MAF make a big difference on a stock 01 AE Maxima? What exactly does this do if you don't mind me asking. I don't want to change my stock intake so am wondering if this will make any difference. Thanks.

U can't clean a MAF, its self cleaning. Every time the car is shut off the MAF heats up and burns all the deposits off the wire that senses the amount of air going through the MAF. Why its called a HOT wire sensor also. Everytime I seen someone try to clean their MAF it wasn't working after that process. Don't be cheap, spend the 50 bux on a new one ! U drive a Maxima not a damn 89 Taurus.

BlackBIRDBQ, its called a "hot" wire because the MAF has 2 wires:
one wire that measures volume of air
one wire (the one further back) that measures air temperature...hence the term "hot"
It DOES NOT clean itself off. The air filter and mesh are supposed to prevent deposits, but there are many out there that over oil their K&Ns.
It is possible to clean the MAF if there is a film on the wire, but if its corroded from the material that has deposited on it, you will have to spend $ on a new one.
Also, its much more that $50! Check out the forum thread:

You can find the MAF for around $83 with the discount codes. good luck!

It does clean itself out, touch it onetime after shutting off the ignition If U pay more than 50 for a MAF U getting screwed.... I used to work for Nissan, and I know how much parts cost, used to visit the parts counter on hourly basis for parts on diff Nissans... hence tech. Anyways I know the MAF is 46 bux wholesale price, thanx. Enjoy.

If I disconnect that my Consult2 can't read intake temps.... so that is a false statement. If U pay more than 50 for a MAF U getting screwed.... Swapped the MAFs Saturday morning and went cruzing in the afternoon. After driving the car in various conditions I was impressed with the difference. Took out the Maxima again just to convince myself I wasn't dreaming. Accelaration is better and it feels like the car has a little more power. And at crusing speeds at 60-65 mph, it feels like the Maxima is really sipping the gas and turning a couple hundred less rpms. I'm curious to see what my gas mileage will be this time around. Definitely a great performance and cost effective mod IMHO.

I just got my MAF changed in my 2000 maxima from Star Nissan , I paid $362 with labor - Did I get the whole assembly or did the sensor just change... the dealer told me that the priginal MAF was shot so I had to change it -- Someone mentioned above that the Nissan Dealer only changes the whole assebmly -- can someone please verify that for me. Help will be greatly appreciated ! Thanks

MAF function - how it works
Guys,
Just to clarify for you, the heated wire is not heated to clean itself.
There are indeed two wires in the sensor. One wire is heated and the other is not. The heated wire is behind the non-heated one in the sensor, relative to the direction of airflow. Incomming air hits the non-heated wire first.
As air passes through the sensor the heated wire is cooled off.
Signal voltage is passing through both wires. The heated wire has a greater resistance to voltage, relative to temperature. The hotter the wire, the greater the resistance, the lower the signal voltage.
The ECU reads both wires, and the difference in signal voltage between the heated wire, and the static wire are used in determining incomming air mass. Of course the other sensors in the system are also used in this calculation, like the air temperator sensor and barometric pressure sensor.
I'm really surprised by the number of MAF sensor failures posted on this forum. I'm familiar with Mass air systems used in Fords, and they simply don't have anywhere near the numbers of failures in this area of the EFI system. I wonder what's killing these sensors so frequently in the Maximas. Do 350Z's and other Nissan cars have this problem too?
