2k1 5spd owners - can you hold rpms at 4000?
This came up in another thread and I am curious.
Can any of you 2k1 owners hold your rpms steady above around 3000 rpms? Specifically, if you go to the track, can you peg the rpms around 4000 and launch from there?
I know I can do it in my 2k fed spec and at least some of the 2k cali specs can do it.

i'm fairly sure I can, however I never had the need to peg up to 4k rpms when launching the car. Its hard enough as it is doing it at 3k rpm with vlsd. I launch at under 2.5k rpm at the track and can't even competely floor it in first without the wheels breaking traction (and i'm stock)
IMO, its too high of an rpm for my stock clutch. I know your trying to see if there is a difference between cali and fed spec maximas in another thread after a discussion with Icey2k1

Of course, what leads to the best times is frequently not the best thing for your clutch!

your right, under 5k rpms in 1st I can't go wot. Everything else has decent traction afterwards.
you say that I can't launch that way (@ 2.5k rpms)... but I remember you launching at 4k rpm? I usually start off at 2.5-3k rpm and slip the clutch to catch around 2k rpm for the launch

Sounds like not a problem for you, but I can't hold RPM constant, the ECU kicks in, RPMs drop, to below 2000rpm, then shoot back up.
Good, at least once Danny@TS is done with my/our ECU, I'll have your software version running.

your making me paranoid.... i'm gonna test this on my car again. I've never held it above 2k for an extended period, maybe i'll try to to see if the rpms drop up and down.
or next time your here in cali, you can drive my car and see.

Yeah, next year for another Rally maybe.
Anyways, what I do is try and increase RPM slowly up to say 2700rpm and hold it. For some reason, I can't and it drops, recovers, drops, etc.. I can quickly spike it to XXXXrpm and then slip(dump) the clutch, but my footwork and timing isn't that consistent and I usually bog or peg-leg.

You know, maybe I just need to go 3000-4000+, since that gay flap thingy in the muffler opens around 2000+rpm. Maybe it's not the ECU, but just the back pressure changing. Sure feels like the ECU though.
I just don't care to dump/slip the clutch any higher, but I'll try that.

Yeah, same here, 1500rpm seems to be where it starts. Used to be lower even before the fuel cut TSB, however now post TSB, it's not so touchy until I get over 2000rpm.
So, you're still saying at 3000-4000+rpm, you don't have any difficulty holding an exact RPM?

however i feel that its hard to keep the revs up because the throttle is so hard to maintain steady, not the ecu
i'll try when i get my car back.
btw, alex... check ur PMs, good news with TS

this thread is starting to get me paranoid. i'll try holding the RPM's above 2000 but last time i checked i didn't have a problem.
what's this good news from TS larry? keep us 2k-2k1 people informed!!!

Auuuugh...no comment?
Larrys' probably never been with this car(pretty new) and I've only been once and it wasn't pretty. So, I don't think that's going to help. IIRC, 15.5@89ish w/pretty fugly 60' around 2.4x, I think. Found out later, I was short shifting gears(using tach redline not even close to actual) and I never got a decent launch, so I know there was better with a halfway decent driver(I'm not). Gtech Pro gave me some 15.2-15.3@96ish, which typically is 5mph fast compared to the track I hear, so 91ish on the street.
I'll see what I can hold above 3000rpm tonight maybe.
