What happends if I put more than 4.25 quarts in?

The manual says to put 4.25 quarts of oil in on the oil change. I put exactly 4.25 in. Should I put a little more in, like 4.5 or so quarts? Would this affect the engine in any way? Should I keep putting 4.25 quarts in or less or more?

adding extra .25 quarts is not going to hurt. If you add few extra quarts, that's different story.

Would it be better to put 4.5 in rather than 4.25?

You car will explode. So will your house. Or, nothing will happen at all.

Seriously though, it won't hurt anything.

Not a good idea to over fill. If too much oil is in the pan the crank can whip or aerate the oil into a foam, which is no good. Granted, a 1/4 to 1/2 quart probably won't put you into this situation, but don't go more than that.

You run the risk of voiding your waranty...... that's if you took your car to a Nissan dealer. I've been told by my local dealer so.

4.25 is jiffylubes standard... just found out they do take off about 15 bucks if you bring in ur own oil.... not that bad i guess if you one of those people who dont have time.

The biggest danger with overfilling is creatingmore pressure and damaging seals. In rare cases, you can literally bog your engine down, but that means really just sticking in a hose and letting it pour. Thought it has been done.

4.2-4.5 is just fine. 5.0 is too much though it shouldn't kill it.

can lead to higher oil pressures and premature bearing wear.

too much oil will cause a drop in oil pressure when something happens to the oil in the engine (forgot the term for it)

i also imagine you'll get alot more excess oil particles traveling back into your intake tract

I'd put 4 quarts in and check the oil level and add what you need. I've found 4.25 quarts puts the level a little bit over the high mark on the dipstick.

Don't forget that too much oil can cause leaks as the extra oil is forced past seals and gaskets.
