Remote Start

Is there an easy to plug in remote start module for this generation?! I have a 2002 SE and discovered this:

On the key fob, press:
Lock
Unlock
Lock
Unlock

Do this in a relatively quick sequence and the car will start turning over!

Now if I only knew how to convert this to remote start...

Also, if this has been posted before, I apologize but I can't use the search feature.. ??

Totally serious. I discovered it completely by accident when I was programming a remote I got off of ebay.

Hmmm....

Also, I'm not 100% sure if its lock-unlock-lock-unlock or unlock-lock-unlock-lock, but it seems to work.

Let me know if mines the only one that does this...

does it actually start or just try to start?? I have remote start w/ my prestige alarm but to allow it to work, the installer actually had to put a spare key inside the module! it needs that little chip inside the key to start the car.

No it just tries to start. But I knew that dealy with the key and I tried it while I was sitting in the car with the key in the ignition (and also right near the ignition) and it still wouldn't start..... I half wonder if it's a dealer 'installed' option when all they have to do is turn on something inside the control module with their computer. Hmmmmm... Next step is to find out whats not there: spark or fuel or both.

I think it would require a little more than programming your key fob. I just base that on my experience with the remote start on my 2k. It took the installer two days to do it correctly. They had some trouble with the wiring directions (which were wrong). But usually its a 5 or 6 hours process if the installer knows what they are doing. If they haven't done it before I would not suggest you have them do it on your Max. For some reason our cars are complicated for remote starts.

Your assuming that the only way to have remote start is by installing an aftermarket version. Being in R&D/Production Engineering, we design stuff into our products all the time that most people don't know about. And with most dealerships getting $400+ for remote start installations, Nissan would make a killing building it into the car to begin with and making the installation (for a Dealer) a 5 minute process. Especially when they go and design all of the other things into the system to make it difficult for the aftermarket to support it.

Actually maximas are one of the easiest cars I have ever put a remote start in. All of the wires for locks and lights are on the floor in the center console. The tach wire is in your steering column as well as the power, start and accessory wires. You don't even have to run a tach wire out to the engine compartment. Took me two hours and I was taking my time. Most wire diagrams made by these companies are usually wrong, I don't trust them. I just test the wires myself.

Did you even try it?

I have much better things to do than waste time coming up with lies to post to a fourm - believe me.

I guess I have my answer - no body knows if Nissan offers a factory plug in for the remote start. To those whom doubt me, just go try it fer chrissakes instead of calling me a liar.

And you won't wear your starter out, either - so don't worry. It tries to start for maybe 10-15 seconds and then stops. No big deal.

Geez...

You're very stupid. A remote start is the same as a crank with the key.

Then wouldn't Nissan want to market that to the consumer? Why haven't we heard anything of it if it's such an easy money-making process for Nissan?

I think because it hasn't been marketed then it does not exist in their design, or at least it is not as simple as one thinks.

Remote starter systems actually have built-in protection to keep the starter from cranking after the engine has been turned over.

False

I knew this wouldn't work, well this guy must have something else hooked up to his Maxima for it to crank over.

hey goofy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's why you test it with a voltmeter before you install it.

That has nothing to do with killing the starter since most remote starter have tach mode.

OK - I appreciate trying. For those who think I'm a nut, I invite you to my house to see for yourself that my car does indeed attempt to start when I do this. I appreciate those who did actually try this because it tells me that something different was installed on this car to make it happen.

My guess is that the previous owner must have had some type of factory/integrated (who knows?!) remote start installed and the dealership I bought it from had no idea. They told me it was a FL car (I'm in MA) and when we got it the windows were all tinted up - it wouldn't surprise me if there was some electronics installed...

I'll make sure to be a USEFUL contributor and let everybody know what I learn (instead of telling people that there's no way it could be true what they tell me)...

Thanks again,
-Chris

Take it to a reputable install shop and see if you can figure out the deal and let us know.

Wow.. holy resurrect an old thread. That said, I felt I should clear my name. About a year after I posted the messages above, I went and bought my wife a new car starter. When I began the installation, I discovered an audiovox add-on car starter box that picks up the door lock/unlock wires so you can use the factory remote. The reason the car wasn't starting was because when we bought the car, they reprogrammed a new key for us, which erased the programming of the key that was in the add-on box. Once I reprogrammed that key, I was golden.

So anyways, I wasn't crazy - the car was trying to start when we pressed lock-unlock-lock. And everybody else was correct - the car didn't have this from the factory.

Phew..

:-)

Wow 4 years, well good to know. Better than my co-workers looking at me any stranger than they usually do as I'm sitting in the parking lot locking and unlocking my car.

Ehh... I think I'll go ahead and do it anyway.
