'02 Fog Light alternatives

I just pulled the fog lights out of my 2002 Max because they were both cracked. From looking back at other threads it seems like I'm not the only one with this problem. I've seem some suggestions on where to get good prices on a new OEM pair, but I was wondering if anyone has suggestions of other fogs that might fit well. I saw some remakes of the 00-01 fogs on ebay a few weeks ago which I liked a lot (more "euro-style" than the '02 fogs) but I called the parts department at my dealership and they said they were different. Anyway any suggestions would be apreciated. Thanks!

I have the exact same problem but have not seen anything that looks original and cheap. I have seen some round angel eyes fog lights that looked pretty good. Didn't get too far on it though and I actually didn't write down the website either. If you are interested in something not stock search around and see what you think.

Let me know what you decide, this is one of my next jobs.

Try Hella or go OEM. Nothing's better than OEM for fogs.

I removed the bumper because it was very simple to do so, plus i wanted to get at the wires on the side markers.

I doubt it will be easier by NOT removing the bumper because, i mounted the fogs by screwing it in to the back wall instead of below or above.. therefore the bracket is 180degrees out. REASON? well that why the lights sits right in the center of the hole.

Plus i rewirde my car as stated on my cardomain page via the left corner light and factory fog lights + 2 relays. so i can retain the factory fog light switch.

Hey thanks for the suggestions everyone. I think I'll give those angel eyes a try. They look good on MiniRX7's car. Can't you pick those lights up at like Pep Boys or something? MiniRX7, if you could give a little more details on that wiring scheme or how you took off the bumper that would be great. Thanks for all the info and suggestions everyone.

BUMPER REMOVAL:

There are screws under neath the car, you can't miss them. Just unscrew everything attached to the bumper from underneath.

Now, there are screws in the wheel well, you can't miss them, it may be covered by the black shield.. You ahve to pull it back, its flexiable so dont be affraid to use some force.

Now at the top of the grill, there are those little black tabby things, just pop them out with a flat head.

I recommend you remove your side markers and unplug them)..

Now you can slide the bumper off.. unplug the OE fogs and your fogs are completely free.

FOGLIGHT WIRING:
THere are 3 wires that come off each foglight. A negative ground, a + for the lights, and a + for the angel eyes.

THey supply you with a switch. Just throw it away.

Let me outline what i did in terms of operations:
You retain your OEM foglight switch and this is how it functions.

When your headlights are on, and your foglight switch is off, your angel eyes will be on.

If your headlights are on and your fog light switch is ON, then your angel eyes are OFF and your foglights will be on.

What you need is TWO RELAYS.

I won't go into the actual diagrams but here is what i did.

YOu need to wire the the first relay to the + of the battery, and then to tjhe 2nd relay. Now HOOK UP the + from the clear markerlight to the relay and then ground the relay. In this relay, you really only need a 4 wire relay.

WHat this relay does, is when your parking lights are on, it turns on the power to the 2nd relay with full battery voltage.

Now for the 2nd relay, tap the + from the factory foglights. For this relay you need a 5 wire relay. Now connect the relay to ( i cant remember the numbers on a relay) but to the foglights directly (this wire is the one that turns on when the relay sees the + from the OEM fogs). The other wire connects to the angel eyes (which turns on when the relay does not see the + from the OEM fogs). Now ground the relay.

Tape everything up, and there you go.

SUMMARY:
RELAY 1 connects to:
1. Ground
2. + battery
3. + side markerlights
4. Input + to the 2nd relay

RELAY 2 connects to:
1. + from relay 1
2. Feed + to foglights
3. Feed + to angel eyes
4. Input + from facotry foglights wire
5. Ground.

I hope that helps, it would have been nice if i remember the numbers on the pins of the relays but i dont.

In essence, the wiring will take under 30minutes to do, but what you end up with is the usage of the FACTORY FOG SWITCH which in turn also turns off AUTOMATICALLY with your auto headlights. Simplification, clean install. WORTH EVERY MINUTE.

Hey thanks a lot for the detailed post. I'm going to go see if I can pick up a set of the lights at pep boys right now. Hopefully it'll stop raining so I can give this a shot tonight. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for all the details.

Both of mine were trashed (cracks and holes). Dealer and online wanted between $150-$165 for EACH replacement. So, I ordered the GXE foglight kit from nissanwholesaleparts.com for $133. Included both fogs, wiring and even the blinker-stalk. These are factory fogs with nissan logo's on the glass. Great deal if you ask me
