P0140 Dealer solution
Went this morning to the dealership and they ran a diagnostics. They got a code of P0139 (response monitering) and a P1147(rear) high voltage monitering).Faulty or "lazy" 02 sensors as the tech brought out which is causing the SES light to come on.The two faulty 02 sensors are the one on the rear manifold and the 02 sensor before the CAT. The tech said that these would be covered under the TSB if my car had 55K or less,(i have 71k)along with a ecu reflash. Total price for me would have been $649 for parts , reflash and labor.
No thank you , i turn my own wrench so i will buy two Bosch 02 sensors from Autozone ,install them myself, then have Nissan reflash my Ecu which the Service manager said wouldn't be a problem either. Also the tech mentioned that the faulty 02 sensors would not cause any harm, he said you might see a slight drop in mpg, but not a drop in performance. I told him my mpg went up , he said probaly because of the intake and the cat back exhaust letting the car breath more.He seen the total opposite with stock vehicles. But he doesn't recomend driving the car more than 10k miles in its current condition, saying that the two faulty 02 sensors could screw something up , if not fixed. I am going to replace both and have all the work done by the beginning of September.
He said 2000-2003 Maximas are nortorious for the two rear sensors to go out around or before 55k miles, so if any of you have this problem , get your problem fixed for free from Nissan before its to late.He said its very rare to see Maximas that have my milage and the two rear 02 sensors hold out this long.
The TSB is NTB02-51a
If you have any of these codes take your car in to get it fixed for free, if your under 55k miles....P0138,P0139,P0140,P01147,P0158,P0159,P016 0,P1167

I ended up wrenching my own as well, but my dealer would not even go for a non-OEM sensor. Not that I would have gone Bosh anyway. Do you know they charge 3 hours for it? I spent 1.5...including a trip to the hardwares store to get the EXACT wrench I needed.
But I wanted that ECM reprogram and to do it by the TSB, I had to have BOTH o2's replaced before they would even touch it. And this was one of the better dealers in my area.
First and last Nissan. I am so tired of the games they play and the lack of Corporate support when dealers screw around.

i had been getting about 1918-20 miles per gallon lately, and also some tranny hesitation from 1-2 and 2-3 culminating with the SES light coming on.
i checked the code with my OBDII scanner and got P0140, so i figured, "dead 02 sensor". i take it to the dealer to see if they'll do it under warranty or something, and they inspect the car for a good hour and a half, before coming back and telling me that all they had to do was reprogram the ecu.
i had them do it, and both problems have been solved. my car confuses the crap out of me sometimes.

Wow that sucks...i am sorry to hear that man. Yes, the dealer that i went to is one of the far better ones in my area.Ain't that a rip, they wanted to charge you 3 hours of wrench time for 1.5, jerks....
So you only changed one of your 02 sensors or both?

yeah dealers suck @$$. i take the car in, and all i told the lady was "check engine light is on" ... i didn't give any sign that i knew anything about the car i was driving. and she tells me that it'll be $95 dollars JUST TO LOOK AT THE CAR. that's d@mn near a hundred dollars to plug in one cable, read a freakin code, and check the sensor. ridiculous. so i told her that i knew the code was P0140 and what i suspected it to be. i managed to get out of it at around 150 after tax for the "look at the car" fee and the reflash. lisence to steal i swear.

I am SOL. They were clear the O2 sensors are a 3/36k mile PERIOD, TSB's be damned! Consider yourself fortunate.
