Remote start installation.

Remote start installation.
My dad got himself 2K Maxima. And he wants me to install remote start.
I did it in our 3 other cars (98i30, 2000corolla , 96civic), but 2K got “chip” in the key, so my question is there a way, or anybody done that? Is there “how to” or “sticky”?

u have to get a box for your key in order to bypass it..... or u can do it ghetto like me, cut up your spare, wrap copper wire around it and and wrap that wire around the key hole.... tricks it into thinking that the key is inside.... =)

Yes it's been done. I've got it on my 2002 6-speed. You'll need to buy a bypass kit and sacrifice the valet key to get it done but now I here you don't have to cuz there is a product out there that is suppose to memorize the code. I forget the number of the bypass kit but it's pretty much universal...check the web for one. Have you checked the how-to section yet for a write-up? If you've done remote starters on other cars then you should be able to do a Maxima...all you need is the wiring diagram. I can dig one up for you if you need one.

the 556u is the only unit i've heard of, but it just transmits the code from the key inside the car. I've read in my Haynes that there's a gear position sensor right in the transaxle, but not sure how it works. Most likely there is a way to run the neutral saftey shut down through that. otherwise, get in the habbit of leaving it in neutral, and you'd have to bypass the clutch-to-start switch

Yes a 555U or the newer 556U is needed for the key bypass.
The neutral safety wire is Green/white stripe located in the engine bay. Using that, it will Not start if left in gear. I just finished doing another one yesterday.

Trust me...make sure you tie into the PNP(Park Neutral Position) sensor with the remote starter if you plan on installing one on a manual transmission car. I learned the hard way when I got lazy and decided to skip this step cuz I never leave the car in gear...poor bumper.
Pin #44(green/white?) on ECU:
With the car off and in gear, the PNP sensor sees an open ground.
With the car off and not in gear(neutral), the PNP sensor sees a ground.
You want to connect the ground wire of the remote starter to this wire...no additional relays are needed.
In addition while driving, the PNP sensor sees ~5VDC when in gear so you may need to add a diode on the ground wire of the remote starter to prevent the SES light from coming on...the code will be related to the PNP sensor. I had this problem when I first did the remote start but by adding the diode it has stopped since.
