Wheel bearings?
Wheel bearings?
this doesn't happen at all speeds,
when i hit maybe 45-50 mph, if the steering wheel is straight or a little to the left, i hear/feel a dudduddudduddududududududududud..... but when turn the wheel to the right even a little bit it stops. it also stops when i hit the brakes. also, last night i was kind of chilly 45 degrees, for the first few minutes driving, the front end was making funky noises, sounded like a flat tire, but i checked and the tires were fine. any ideas? thanks.

wheel bearing, jack car up and see if there's play in the wheel, if so bearings. if you hear and feel the dududududu sound then it's bearings. I had mine replaced twice in one year, if you're under warranty or extended service contract, it should be covered.
I think mine are going, but I don't see any free-play in the wheel when I jack it up. But I'm noticing some symptoms that lead me to believe it's bearings (almost excessive runout in the rotors, general looseness in the front-end at highway speeds with steering shimmy, some extra noise at highway speeds that vaguely sounds like it could be the bearings, occasional brake squeal while turning at low speed WITHOUT applying the brakes, a general periodic feel/sound in the brakes while braking at low speed... mind you these are all with brand new rotors/pads, but it did this with the old ones too)
From the dealer, DAVEB's price is around $50-$60/piece... or you can buy an aftermarket brand called BCA Bearings, they make an application for the 5th gens I think.
BCA Bearings part# 510060... partsamerica.com (affiliated with Advance Auto Parts I think?) carries them for $45/piece, and global4autoparts.com carries them for ~$39/piece I think.
You can't do the whole job yourself though, you need a machine shop to use a hydraulic press to press out the bearing and press in the new one. If yours is worn severely, the spindle may need replacement too (~$120 from DAVEB, or you can search junkyards), and the hopefully-unlikely other possibility is that the bore of the steering knuckle (where the bearing is pressed into) could be scored, requiring replacement of the steering knuckle. Both of those you won't know until the machinist presses out the spindle and the old bearing.
As a side note, I called a local Meineke for a price quote for both bearings to be replaced by them... parts & labor totalled $425, and they said they use BCA Bearings.
Since I've already ordered my bearings, I'll end up either doing it half myself or taking it someplace else. (these guys refuse to install customer-brought parts, and they pretty much admitted that they charge the customer ~$80/bearing for that particular part, after I told him I got it for ~$39, he said that's about right. They're in the parts business as well as labor.)

Whatever you do, try and get it done soon. Like spirilis said, its possible to ruin the spindle and the steering knuckle with excessive wear. After a couple trips on the interstate, the entire hub assembly was shot, when i removed the big lock nut in front of the bearing/rotor, ball bearings fell all over the place, and that needed replacing too. Also- Nissan taxes the hell out of their parts. =o)
Happy shopping for parts.
