1/4 mile question
1/4 mile question
After owning my 00 SE for almost 9 month now i finally got around to taking her to the track last night. I went to the English town NJ and ran like 9 races. My first 2 were like 16.82-16.17.3, then the rest of them were preatty much in the 16.278-16.256, my best one was 16.235. As i was looking over the timing slips in the other forums i came across the breakdown an 1/4mile of every generation. It seems that my car should be able to do high 15's instead of low 16's. Personally i was expecting exactly what i got, but i'm starting to be a little worried now. Any of you guys who own a 00 SE automatic have the same numbers as i do or better. Also this 15's high is that considered with like all the junk in your trunk.
Thanks alot

its most likely your shifting. To get fast times does not = smooth shifts. you are kind fo hard on the car to get the best times. Need to slip the clutch and pretty much dump it in every shift. On my motorcycle, No clutch is used in shifting and that saves .3 in the 1/4 mile.
He doesn't even say he has a 5spd...He's in BK, NY so he more than likely has an auto. Dunno' what to tell you though, dude. Answer this:
Mileage of the car
Tire wear
Last fluid change
What you had in your car
How full was your gas tank

My car is automatic, i have about 83000 miles on it, tires aren't all that hot, changed my ATF and my oil about 2 weeks ago, in my trunk i had the spare and some other stupid things that add up to most 8-10lbs, my gas tank was half
Ouch...were you spinning tires off the line or something? Well, I guess the 16.2 isn't too bad. My old '93 Altima auto ran a 16.1 with I/P/Max muffler but like they said, it could just be your driving technique...What was your 60'? Maybe a 2.5/2.6??

Hmmm...i don't think my tires were the issue that much. my 60' was 2.5-2.6, lets say i had a good set of tires on what other factor can effect my 1/4 mile time. Also what is the average you guys run you 2000 SE automatic.
Did you manually shift? 2k-2k1's need all the revs they can get to reach peak HP, unfortunately, the rev limiter prevents them from taking advantage of gearing. I ran IIRC 15.6@88mph (or was it 15.4?) with a 2.3 60ft time stock with my 00 GLE manually shifting. At the time, I still had the OEM Toyo Proxies AO2 which I thought where perfect for launches; brake TQ for a split second to about 1,400-1,600rpms and give it throttle at an even pace allowing it to chirp for a second and grip (not slamming it to the floor on launch, otherwise my 60ft times where 2.5-2.6)
MAF repleacement is like installing a cone intake on your Maxima- but alot eassier to do- just 4 10mm bolts and then one hose clamp, unplug the connector and its out. Coils are just as EZ to do, but you need a allen head type socket to remove the front valve cover- coil cover, its the plastic one that says Nissan 3000 V6 Twin Cam. Then you will need a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the 10mm bolt holding each coil in, just pull the coils out and unplug them. Don't discard the old ones just in case you have a coil problem in the future (unlikely as I have almost 60K on my new ones now-knock on wood). As far as broken VIAS- look for a thread on the forum here describing how to check its operation and how to fix it- its your variable intake air system, which is the whole intake manifold. Alot of 50+K Mile 00-01 Maximas that have been driven hard will have this problem- mine has been broke for over a year and I need to repleace the whole intake manifold as its too late to fix mine now. 260 bux for a new manifold- welcome back phat powerband.
My best was 15.905 @ 86.59 with a 2.45 60 ft and manually shifting. I expected more with the Y-Pipe install but only gained about .15 sec. I only had it on for about a week. I'll try again in the spring and see if the ECU has adjusted to it. I need to do some work on the launch.
