My car barely starts..help

Ok this has been going on for some time now especially on a cold start. I have some kind of hesitation in the system. I turn over but it feels very weak when it is trying to turn over. some times it tries to turn over so many times i have to turn the key into the off position and then try to start it again. The first time i had this problem was when i filled up at some crappy gas station and now i have had this problem for about 2 months. I installed a new starter but that was not the problem. It is almost like not enough current is getting to the system.

Could it be a faulty new alternator...battery is not being charged properly. Since you are in Houston..the cold doesnt affect you...check how much current the battery is putting out...other than that..The manual says that at time you might need to crank a bit more..something to do with emissions...last option would be faulty MAF.

you did say your battery is brand new isn't it? regardless....plug and play another working battery from an acquaintance's car and see if it starts better

yeah, dealer is going to rape u there

starter is kinda hard to take out, but u just need a long driver (or a pipe) and a swivel joint with the 15 and 17 mm sockets.

it's a DIY if ur handy with cars, but if not, i had a good mechanic rebuild mine for < 200 bux.

well if you know exactly what to tackle (first airbox, then bolts to starter, then wire harness) i think you can get that out in 1 hour...just gotta have the right tools, or else you'll spend hourS.

but then you gotta take the starter to a shop of your choice to exchange it or rebuild it (which will take them some time), and once that's done, you gotta put everything back another 30 minutes.

then again, it only takes so long cuz we (at least me) aren't real-world mechanics.

i got a used 01 starter and when i installed it nothing changed. I did notice that when i used my back up jump start the car had an easier time starting. I think there maybe a current problem. It is really wierd b/c my car has a hard time starting in the morning but later on in the day it has a much easier time. i am still trouble shooting the problem so if you guyz have any ideas please feel free to tell me. Oh yeah, my battery and alternator are less than 4 months and this problem did not start until after i installed them.

I had a problem like that once. My glove box wasn't adjusted right and the light wasn't going out. In the morning it would barely start. But during the day I drive a lot so it would get charged up and start normally.

Take your car someplace dark and check every place you can think of that a light could be on.

I had the same problem, and it turned out to be my starter.. Just something to think about.

see what the voltage drop is at the negative and positive battery cables, this can be done by using a digital multimeter and placing one lead on the post itself and one on the terminal connector itself, put the dmm on dc volts turn the car over and see what she reads, more than half a volt is not too good. also if you put one of the leads on the negative terminal and run the other lead across the top of the battery it will give you your static discharge, in a perfect world you dont want any but there will always be a little bit, try cleaning the battery with baking soda and water........static discharge can drain a battery, dont let it fool you.

I was having the same problem a few weeks ago, where the car took longer and longer to turn over. One day it just quit on me. I ended up buying a yellow top and now the car runs and turns on perfectly. It's my understanding that our cars need a good constant current. Those cheap nissan batteries suck and most aftermarket batteries just don't have the cranking power we need. i know mine if pretty much overkil at 850amps, but better to be safe than sorry.

My suggestion is to have your battery tested before you set the car to "rest" then before you start it up again the next day or time test it again to see how much (if any) difference there is.

I had the same thing happen on my '00. It seemed to be worse when it was humid. I ended up getting it towed to a local auto place and had the fuel pump replaced. No problems since then....
