Do I have a belt going?

There's a very distinct sound coming from my car. You can't hear it inside, but when you step outside it's obvious. It's a whirring sound, with a slight squeak -- as if something inside is not turning/moving the way it should be. It's kind of hard to describe, but anyone have any ideas?

May be a belt, may be a pulley or tensioner, may be the power steering pump, or it may be your AC compressor. Just the thoughts that come into my mind. They can all have a similar sound to what you describe. Your best bet may be to pop the hood and have a listen to each location... or have a brave friend do it while you tach her up! Hope its nothing, though.

Also, check to make sure the electric fan is ok. Just thought about that. It can make a whiring sound and a slight squeak if it were out of balance (like it were nicked or something). Good luck!
