Finally did it.

Used shopvac type parts made by a company called rigid.

This is the nozzle made from a brush attachment. You can see how I pillaged the brush out.

Here it is in assembled with the wand. I think I ended up with similar parts as empz. Mine also has the retractable feature

Thanks to all you guys for the ideas and insight!
I would have never thought of this stuff without this board.

Nice job! Looks pretty damn good! Any concerns with water? Also, you may want to think about going with some metal type mesh, no? That red "fruit box" mesh looks like it could be a little frail.

Anyway, congrats!

Yhea I was worried about the water and the mesh but I decided for now, Iam going to keep it inside the car. Its sitting down on the black plastic pointing outwards. Iam still not brave enough to expose it to the rain.

BTW.. yup, you guessed it exactly, its from a fruit box

looks nice......man, makes my setup look ghetto-fabulous

one question: Are you going to chop through the splash guard so that the end of your tubing is outside?

Thanks Guys!

You can see a good side by side picture in Empz post above. Iam sure we used the same wand and coupler. I got my stuff at Home Depot too.

I havent cut through the plastic yet. Mainly because of fear of water and debris but also because I'm thinking it'd be hard to hide from the dealer. I might do it when I have more milage on the car.

I cant tell if its the K&N or the oscai but the diff is definately there.

If you're taking on stillen... you chargin $850 for the OSCAI? I think that's what they'd charge.

Of course, that would be the price for a group buy. Wait a minute, they don't do group buys!

Honestly ... I'd charge for the Material and like $10-15 bucks for the Labour!

So its gonna be like 100101 Times cheaper than Stillen!

I FINALLY DID IT!

Thanks to rerunn/Empz I finally went through with it and put my OSCAI together today. I have the same exact setup as EMPZ. I also cut through the splash guard and stuck the scoop below where the guard would be. You can actually see the scoop when looking at the car from the front. I'm not anticipating any rain any time soon so I'm not so worried. I'm also gonna order the AEM bypass valve and hook it up. The car definatley moves much quicker now. Thanks to you 2 for the inspiration and thanks to the original pioneers that even thought this up. I love this forum! |One!

about the AEM bypass: you really don't need one. The stock air scoop acts just like a bypass valve, only better. If you were to submerge your OSCAI tubing in water, the engine would still pull air through the stock scoop. Only if you had both the scoop opening and OSCAI tubing underwater, would the engine take in water.....but if that ever happens you have bigger problems

If that's the case forget it. Thanks for the info. I would have never known that.

OK, since I hooked her up a little bit today I decided to take her out for a spin. Nice day out, a cool 60 at night. I did noticed the RPM's climbing up much quicker but it doesn't have the same pull as it did stock Next test was top end. On 3 occassions I was able to top her out @143Mph. So I this time I just wanted to see how much faster it would take to get there. Just keep in mind that there was more traffic out tonight then there was during the 143 speeds. Anyway, tonight I topped out @131?? I dont know, I gotta try it again. Maybe all this stuff is just in my head. We'll see.

About the bypass...

Getting the oscai submerged underwater was never a concern for me. Having water shot into the oscai opening at high speeds does worry me though. Thats why Iam so afeared to lower my scoop below the plastic in the rain. The way the tube is angled, I dont think water would have any problems creeping up there at high speeds.

Iam not totally sure, but I think water in the filter box would not be a good thing.

I have a 4" wide scoop on my OSCAI that sits flush with a 4" wide hole on the plastic splash guard. There is metal mesh (the kind you put over rain gutters) a few inches into the soop. 3" wide tubing runs up the rest of the way. I've had it for about 2 months now, I've drivin it many times in the rain, even at turnpike (90mph) speeds in the rain as well. There has never been any problems with water at all. BTW my 0-60 time went down a FULL SECOND. So I suppose if you set the oscai up properly, it works. Very well.
