friend buying 5th gen- what do we need to know?

so i have a 4th gen and before i got that my freind bought an accord. now he's kicking his own ***, and is gettin a max. he's look at 00-01
so my question is, what's a good price for an auto se ( i know i keep tellin him to get a 5spd) with sunroof and leather. pretty much deluxe. also is there anything we should look for that might be bad. what's the difference from se to gle and from yr to yr on the 5th gens? like i said i got a 98 so im kinda clueless

Glad your friend has finally seen the light. Hahaha. Just kidding…but not really. If he is considering a 2000-01, why not also 2002-03? For a little extra cash, he would get a ton of upgrades. In 02, the Max got a revised engine with big bumps in hp and torque. With that, a lot of the engine internals and drivetrain were strengthened. I think brakes and exhaust too. The suspension was retuned slightly (hardly noticeable). HID lights replaced halogens (a mixed blessing). Several safety and luxury features became standard or available. Cosmetic changes were made to the front, rear, and interior. Color combinations and option packages were shifted around.

The main difference between GLE and SE is the stiffer suspension on the SE. Stock tires are also wider, lower profile, and "higher performance" on the SE. SE has a rear spoiler and metal accents on the gauges and interior. GLE has more chrome outside and more standard luxury inside. Although the SE can be had with the same luxury options, finding one is rare. I probably missed a bunch of stuff. Check out the Vehicle Overview for the Max on Edmunds.com. I think one of the Stickies/FAQs here lists differences too. Good luck.

A lot of 02-03 SE's were rental cars for Hertz, Budget, etc.

damn thanks- i didn't really know the 02-03 were so diff. that's why the price is so much more. but that is the problem. here the diff is about 2-3gs, so its sorta out of his range. there aren't any common problems they have we should look for, cuz he's def getin a 5th
