Weird Noise From Engine?!?!
Weird Noise From Engine?!?!
I dont know if it is a problem but soemthing i notice at idle. There is alot of the time this weird "pepper grinding" sort of noise that is random like poppong pop corn (i thought of this description alot). It is a low noise that i can feel through the shifter. Anybody else experience this? is this something not to worry about? Also the idle is a little rough, like on and off vibration not too bad, don't know if one has to do with the other. Besides cleaning the throttle body what else can cause a rough idle, spark plugs maybe? Thanks for any help you can give me. Maxima.org are the best forums ever!!
I think you need to give more info:
-is it RPM dependant?
-how many miles on the car?
-manual or autotragic?
-if manual does it make the noise in neutral with the clutch out?
-if manual does it make the noise with the clutch in?
-if auto does it do it only in park?
-if auto does it do it only in neutral?
-if auto does it do it in any or all gears while stopped?
-does it do it under load (driving)?
-how loud is it?

1) not rpm dependent, only hear it when at idle, not revving or anything.
2) it is manual, i am idling so in neutral.
3) It is a kinda low noise, don't hear anything when driving
thanks for any help you can give me, it is really annoying when i just sit at idle nothing on just listening to my car and hear/feel this little noise.
P.S. noise is more prominent when windows are up.

Go out and start up the car. Sit inside and listen for the noise. When you hear the noise, depress the clutch and, whlie holding it in, see if you still hear the problem.
I had a similar noise on my old car after I got a new clutch installed. It was like a soft 'clacking' noise. Only heard it while idling with the clutch out. When I pushed the clutch in, it went away. I should say that I never figured out what the problem was before getting rid of the car, but my guess is the dealership (who SHOULD be doing it right) left something a little loose, and pressure was somehow put on it when disengaging the clutch.
