Throttle body

Went to get my Advanced timing done and they said my throttle body is clogged. It took a while for the consult II to learn my idle air blah blah. So basically i need to clean it. Besides wiping it down with carb cleaner anything else i should do????

to completely clean it you need to actually remove it so you can clean the part behind the butterfly valve too. i have pics on my website to show you how.

I'm too afraid to do it....i've heard horror stories about the after effects (although most aren't really proven to be caused from cleaning the TB)

the aftereffects is because the buttefly is electronically controlled, and when you move it to clean the grime around it, you throw it out of wack. suddenly you turn on your car and WTF?!?!??! why is my idle so damn idle. sucks to be you. AFAIK, you have to have a consult to do the Idle re-learn. now, a few tricks i've heard about lowering the idle, which were done on my car when they upped my timing, was to disconnect the MAF while the car is idling. this would force a lower idle, and then pop it back in. when i had my idle relearned, the idle wouldn't drop below 975rpm. finally he pulled the MAF, it dropped to 800, pushed it back in, then did the relearn, and it adjusted to 612/625.

so, what did you learn today. you can do a limited TB cleaning. just dont' touch the butterfly. if you do, be ready for a high idle. if you leave it alone, you're good. i guess you could always spray it with TB cleaner and let it soak. that would take care of SOME of the grim. but it's far from a thorough cleaning.

well you do TRY the idle relearn and see if that works. i don't know the instructions but i know the technosquare website teaches you how to do the idle re-learn. although, from what my buddy told me and he owns a consult II so we did it the easy way, he says you can NOT do it via the other method (press gas, wait 10 seconds, etc...) but hey, it may work. try it. see what happens. if now, then you'll have to get a hold of a consult II and do the relearn. again, if they can't get that idle to drop, disconnect and reconnect the maf. that forces it to drop like 4-500 rpm.

hmm...then i guess don't do that...although mine stayed on....or maybe he had the gas pressed when i unplugged the maf....i dotn' remember...it was awhile ago....

go to the technosquare site and look up the idle relearn instructions and try it...see what happens.

And How did you come to this conclusion? If that was true, then no one had to beg stupid dealer to advance the timing.. But i think you are smart enough, and trying to pull a joke here. But if not.....

seems like the blind leading the blind. there's been much dealer smoke blowing and tb fubars on this site. just seems like people should know better by now. and the tb cleaning advancing timing tops it off.
