5spd Owners- NEW MOD review
#122
Actually lemme work on the front tomorrow and I will let you have pictures of what I find out. I didn't have much time on my hands when working on that stuff last time, but since the boss is out for vacation starting tomorrow I will have a whole week with no one to tell me when to stop working :P I did show ya the pics on AIM of the stuff installed last time we talked bout my Volk wheels right ?
I might need a hook up of some sort on Eibach ERS springs, I wanna get rid of my JIC 9kg/6kg springs for something stiffer- especially for the rear. I also have an idea for the rear Panhard rod that we need to talk bout and I will take some pictures/photoshop it.

Larry, we need to talk on AIM. I got something to share with you that should improve the handling of our rear beam WAY more than any other mod you can think off.......
I will PM importrp- bout the ERS springs, I decided to ditch those JIC 9/6Kg springs in favor of something to my taste and needs. Looks like 3.5" springs with 8" height is normal for coilovers these days.

You should really check the link and picture I posted in page 4.
The shifter bushing is on top of the catalytic converter, covered by the heat shield. It is near the middle portion of the vehicle and not near the front where the y-pipe is.

I have a question.
Does this stop the shifter movement when the accelerator is pressed?
When I'm in 3rd or 5th, the shifter shifts back some when I step on the gas.
A few times, it has actually popped out of 5th. Will changing the bushing solve this or is there something else that I need to do to fix this problem?
I'm about to order one of the bushings regardless, but would like a little advice about what I'm experiencing with my shifter.
Thanks!

shifter movement
bushing won't hurt, thats for sure. It took the rubber like feel out of it. For it to pop out of gear you may have tranny wear problems. IMHO mod is well worth it from the Larrio. I think there's a group buy going on.

I was hoping the Energy Suspension motor mount inserts would fix the drivetrain slop that happens when you get on or off the gas in gear, but it didn't, and I doubt the shifter bushing would fix it since it has to be due to the engine moving in the bay and/or play in the drivetrain somewhere.

I installed the bushing with a Curtesy short shifter at the same time in January 2006. It was hard to shift (meaning certain gears, mostly 3rd and 5th, I would skip because the shifter would not go in that gear without forcing it in). Shifting would get easier when the car warmed up. This summer it was fine (warmer temps), but now it's getting cool again and I'm running into the same problem. It's worst when starting cold and outside temp is below 50 degrees. Does the polyurithane need to heat up? Is it the Curtesy short shifter? What can I do to fix this? I am using natural tranny fluid, will synthetic help?

its ur shifter. my pacesette was like that, just upgraded to a b&m much better. my pacesteer had rusted which made it hard to shift into certain gears.
i had my bushing installed at the same time, i find it much easier to find gears.

Did you do this install yourself? I have the bushing but I need a mechanic to install it because I have read that you must remove the cat to install it and my cat is welded in place.

You don't have to remove the cat, though it is easier to get the old shifter out and new one in if you do. The cat bolts are rusted so much they are likely to break when you try to remove them. i broke one and gave up. I removed the heat sheild (above the cat) and worked around the cat. If you have a good tool set with a universal joint you should be OK though it will take longer

Second, Larrio takes the old rubber off and basically remolds the bracket with harder urethane... I think.
Third, rubberized caulk is just that. It won't do much. It's probably softer than oem bracket.
