by a Mustang Cobra.... not sure what year it is... but the newer body style.... we were at the light.. and he mentioned a race.... green light... I got a jump on him, about half car length.... then I shift to second... he start to gaining little by little, I lost about 1 car length, due to the road is not a straight road... kind of twisty... I was suprise that the max can hang with the Cobra... after the race.. talked to the driver... pretty cool guy... he was surprise that the max can hang... he asked what mod. I had.. I just told him... "complete stock, except some heavy @ss momo arrow"... his girlfriend was....
"damn... that's pretty good for a V6, makes me want one..."
after that... he want another race... but I was in a rush to get home.... so... I decline... overall... it's a nice race.. I knew I will loss to this one.. but just want to see how bad.....

yeah, same here...i rarely talk to people...usually it's just a thumbs up and we both go on our way...this past sunday the passenger flipped me the bird though because i was hanging with them at about 3/4 throttle...my friend told me to down shift so as i was doing that, my friend waves goodbye and we just took off...they caught upto us at the next light and the guy flipped us the bird...o well...i've only talked to a few people that i have raced (except for my friends...i always brag to them since i have the fastest car in my group of friends)

we both

come to the stop light... and both of our windows are down..... so the guy start to talk to me...hey.. if the guy want to talk... that's fine... I just hate it when ppl start to flip ppl off cuz they lose the race... they don't seem to get that there ARE cars out there that is faster then theirs... unless you are driving something like Mclaurn F1(sp?) or something like that...

Re: we both

sp-> McLaren (just like the race team)

Besides, you don't need something like a McLaren.. I would be perfecly happy with a nice porsche, ferarri, bmw, or one of dozens of other cars... once you're up in that class, i would imagine it's very rare to come across someone capable of beating you... (although that might not necessarily be a good thing... knowing that you are easily going to win EVERY race... but I digress...)

As for the Cobra, nice race... i bet most cobra owner's would not care to admit how close a race a sub $30k, 4-door sedan can give them... Power to the MAX!!!!

Only with a Ferrari Maranello 550 I will have a quiet mind knowing that I could beat anything in a street race.0-60 in 4.3 seconds,200 mph top speed, with this car you could do anything you want.

Umm... correct me if i'm wrong, but there are cars that can get under 4 secs 0-60..

The maranello goes for what, like 200-250k?? even the $110k 911 turbo boasts 4.2 secs 0-60... The 911 GT2 has like 40 more HP, I believe (and is street legal in the US!!!)..

-AND- let's not forget the NISSAN skyline :-) It can be modded to fit comfortably in the 4 second range.. In fact, I had a video clip of one handing a 911 it's *** on a platter.. Go NISSAN!!!

Point being.. once you have the money to buy ANY one of these cars, you feel fairly confident that you can take anything on the road... EVEN cobras :-)

-Tom Z.

PS.. i'd love to get a BMW M5... just cuz it looks remarkably like your average BMW sedan until your victim sees the M5 badge on the back (but then it's too late)..

You are right but if you have that kind of a money you wouldn't buy a BMW you want something good like a Lamburgini or something close.
By the way its not only the acceleration its the whole performence: handling, braking, weight distribution, etc.

I will go buy a CBR900 and smoke everything on the road. Except for another Superbike. And you can get on eof these for less than Dodge Neon. What a deal!!!!

Nah... you're on crack.. :-) {there's a smiley... no flames}

2.4 secs is faster than a McLaren F1.. BY A LOT... (and I believe the Mclaren still holds the record as the fastest production car)

Besides, i don't think that the laws of our universe would allow for it ... 2.4 seconds??? Doesn't sound possible on normal pavement... Perhaps on some sort of 21st century lab engineered surface with equally fabricated tires..

From what i've heard, Dodge vipers run mid-high 4's... a stock 911 turbo goes about 4.1-4.2, 911 GT2 does about 4.0-4.1 (although I heard 3.9 somewhere)... the GT3 isn't street legal in the US. The Maranello in question get's in the low 4's as well. There are few cars which can get under 4.. I believe that mid 3's are about the practical limit until we develop some new form of propulsion, or some kind of super traction tires...

tomz, the cover article on motor trend (either motor trend, r&t, or c&d) says something like "street legal viper 600+hp 0-60 in 2.4

btw, the original article on the 911 turbo is 0-60 in 3.6 for the stick and 3.8 for the auto and the gt2 is supposed to have 40 more hp (i think) which should make for 3.4 or so...i'll let you know when we get them at work...i've driven the new 911 turbo's and to tell you the truth, they don't feel as fast as the magazine times say...but, then again, that is why they made the gt2...stopping production on the 911 turbo after 1 year because most of the porsche enthusiasts that spent $130k+ on the car weren't too happy with it...it is not a "drivers car"...although it is extremely fast, most of the complaints were about porsche making it too luxurious by putting traction control and stuff like that in the car...the gt2 has almost an identical body style, more horsepower, and less weight

btw, i work at a ferrari/porsche/jaguar/aston martin/rolls royce/bently/acura/audi/bmw/other exotics that i can't currently think of dealership...i drove a 550 maranello for the first time on thursday and i have to say that is the most amazing car i have ever driven in my life...i have driven 308's, 456's, f355 (and spyders), and a few 360 modena's and this 550 was the best out of all (the 360 comes in a very very close second, though)...we have an f50 at the dealership, but it is for sale for $750,000 so needless to say, they won't let me drive it (at least not yet)...550's are amazing cars

yes, the viper does 0-60 in 2.4, but it is not a stock dodge viper...and to say that a car can't do 0-60 in 2.4...well, i have an article from about a year ago (i can find it if you want) testing 2 "done up" mustangs...one of them does 0-60 in 1.8 seconds...this was on a testing track, not synthetic material or anything...the same way all cars are tested...need i say more?

Hmm... funny... i'm not gonna call BS on this one, cuz i'm certain you aren't making this up, and these are facts which are rather easily verified... HOWEVER, i still find it EXTREMELY hard to believe... --> consider this ::

http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/...RecordID=43540

Thrust SSC (Super Sonic Car) completed its record-breaking run in a matter of seconds, but was the culmination of six years of work and a six-week, on-site campaign. Two and a half years of research went into the shape of the car. It took a further two years and 100,000 man-hours to build. Its twin Rolls-Royce afterburning turbofans – the same as those found on Phantom jet fighters – generate 22,680 kg. (50,000 lb.) of thrust. At 82,027 kW. (110,000 hp.), Thrust SSC is more powerful than 1,000 average, 1.6-liter family cars. Despite being 16.45 m. (54 ft.) long, and weighing 10,400 kg. (22,928 lb.), Thrust SSC accelerates at a phenomenal rate, reaching 96.56 km./h. (60 m.p.h.) in 2.5 seconds, and 965.6 km./h. (600 m.p.h.) in 16 seconds. Thrust SSC was the brainchild of Richard Noble, who set the previous land speed record of 1019.467 km./h. (633.468 m.p.h.) in Thrust 2 in 1984. It was the first land vehicle ever to break the sound barrier, and the resultant sonic boom shook the school in the nearby town of Gerlach, causing sprinkler covers to fall off.

110,000 HP !!!!!!!! hmm.. must have a VTEC badge.. you think the CL-S guys can take it?? **grin**

k, i looked through quickly and i can't find the cover i remember (i didn't look through all of the mags)...however, i found an article on another mustang that does 0-60 in 1.9...they put it up against the zl-1 camaro (the mustang is called the boss mustang)...basically the head performance camaro guy vs. the head performance mustang guy

camaro 0-60=3.0
mustang 0-60=1.9
camaro 0-100=6.8
mustang 0-100=5.5
camaro 0-130=11.2
mustang 0-130=9.7
camaro 1/4 mile=11.01@128.64
mustang 1/4 mile=10.55@135.05

the camaro weighs in at 3523 lbs and puts out 770hp@6900rpm and 683 lb. ft. torque@5200rpm

the mustang weighs in at 3695 lbs and puts out 855hp@6200rpm and 794 lb. ft. torque@5200rpm

there is a great pic in the magazine (if my scanner was working i'd scan it) of one of the guys warming his hands over a previous burnout...they actually launched the car so hard that this thick track of rubber that the car left on the asphault caught on fire

btw, this is on pages 78-87 of the january 2000 issue of car and driver

Look man.. like I said, I believe you. (just from what I know, it still seems pretty improbable that you could make rubber stick to asphalt like that)

It would still be nice to see the article tho, if you have time..

-Tom Z.

hmm.. i was gonna put in some calculations to try and figure out how many car-lengths we would lose by in a 1/4 mile to one of these stangs (I was expecting a BIG number), but notepad crashed... how often does THAT happen??? :-)

aright.. i'm talking to myself... ignore my last post.. i was too busy with notepad, and you obviously already looked up the numbers during that time.. 1.9 seconds is still wicked fast... goodnight..
