Timing chain replacement

My car is about to break 100k miles. Should I consider getting the timing chain replaced soon?

I'm sure it'd go a good 'nother 30k miles, but I'm one of those overly cautious people. Does anyone else have a high-mileage 5th gen?

PS, sorry if this is a re-run type thread, Google gave me nothing!

Timing chain needs no replacement.

It is suppose to last the life of the engine and then some.

to Kevlo... it is a CHAIN, not a BELT like many domestic cars.

Your water pump, on the other hand...

Belts need replacements between 70 - 100k depending on your car but our max chains should last the life of your car.

Is it a chain like on motorcycles and dirtbikes??? if so dont they stretch and weaken???

I cycled for many many years and I cannot tell you how many chains I replaced. I know bicycle chains are totally different, but still a chain, and less power output (not by much with me pedaling ).

i had a bad experience with the timing chain on my old toyota's 22r. The chain got a little loose, slapped against the coolant channel in the block, and eventually wore a whole in it. And presto, I had a coolant and oil mixed (I like to call this the 'mocha mix')

Anyway, I guess that's why I asked

I never heard of that kind of situation. Toyota hasn't used timing chain since the 80's. You should be good for the life of the engine til tar she blows

Yes it is. and yes they do. Chains do last longer, but nothing lasts forever! Your chain WILL stretch which will change cam timing which will affect your power band. Usually it is very gradual, so it's not readily noticable. But, get in a freinds similar car with alot less mileage and that's when it will be aparent.
