Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Balancing Issues

Please Make Sticky If Can,

I got 4 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires 1 1/2 weeks ago and had to balance them 2 times already, because they would vibrate when I would go over 50mph.

Does anyone have this same problem?

Any one know how to fix it without buying new tires?

How do you make a petition to send to Michelin to get the tires recalled? Due to balancing issuse.

The salesman didnt tell me when I bought them that they had problems, he said it would be a better ride than before. And it worse.

it's the dumbasses that are balancing it...i got new falkens a couple weeks ago, and on my way home, noticed vibration...so i took it back to the shop the next morning, and they told me the tires were 'badly out of balance' and asked me how long i had been driving on them...i told them one day, and they said the computer at the other store must have been messed up....sooo i get straight on the highway, and again, it does the same thing from 50-70....so i take it back to the original shop AGAIN, and now finally, it rides really smooth....it just took the right guy to do it i guess

EDIT: where did you get them from? and i think this should be posted in the wheels/tires forum, but that's me...

Both times that I have put new tires on I have had to rebalance them several times. Initially my car was vibrating at 70-80 mph. Dealer fiddled with it for a while and ended up replacing the left CV axle and rotors, hubs and bearings on both sides. I just got new tires, had to go back and have them rebalance. Now my r cv axle was clicking in turns now went silent and just vibrating. Might be something else to check besides balance.

Hate to tell ya, but its not the tires. Ive had my Pilot Sport A/S's for over a year now and ive had no problems. Ive taken it over 2000 miles to Florida and back doing 85 plus and no vibration at all. I think the problem lies with whoever is balancing them. Go somewhere else, these tires are too great to screw up!

First, agree with MadMaxNH, on previous cars I've had to have the tires rebalanced twice (the second time to fix the first) within a single day. Unfortunately, some techs just suck...or at least their machines do.

Second, I've never had any balancing issues on Michelins, including my current set of Pilot Sport A/S, and I've had about five sets in the past 14 years. It's really rare to have a balancing problem with them, so I'd try re-balancing and then look for a bent wheel.

Good luck!

Well, I had the same issues with the tires, vibration at 70-80 MPH... I had them balanced by 3 different shops, changed all bunch of suspension parts, spent hundreds of $$$ and it came down to tires. Michelin covered the replacement under warranty and the vibration went away after they installed new tires...

spend some money and get the road force balance. its the most accurate balancing machine out there. it puts weight on the tire when it is spnning on the machine.also give you a print out on the result.it cost me 99.00 to balace all 4 tires. no problem at 100+ miles per hour.

They came on my new 03' when I bought it. After several attempts to balance them the stealer put Eagle RSA's on and they were fine. A month later, I was in and was told by my salesperson they had to replace the tires on 26 new Max's as Mich said it was a bad lot. Thios was a while ago, but my point is that it happems,,, Good luck...

I've had the Pilot's for a year and a half and over 26K with no problems. Tires have been rotated every 5-7K.

Ive had 5 sets of these.....and it most certainly is not the tires. You have slight runout in your wheels, and you will need a "roadforce" balancing to get it to where they can balance them with regular weights. This entails them using a Hunter machine to find the high spot in the rim, and the ideal spot on the tire for them to line up with it. Then they have to rotate the tire on the rim until those spots line up. Once they do this, they rebalance the rim/tire with standard wheel weights and you should have no issues.
