This is going to be a REALLY tough sell. Very few people even have HID, fewer have more than one set...and I doubt anyone cares about backups...

 

i can understand it could help if you have 5% tints. i have 15% tints and can barley see through at night. but im not too sure how useful it is to have hids for the rear, i cant even afford it for my fogs..

 

This would serve a good purpose for "show" or as others have said, for dark tinted windows while backing up in a low lit area. I have 15% tint all the way around, and I ***** about how I have to roll down my windows to back into my driveway all the time. (my own fault) But I this it would serve it's purpose for me.

 

Still waiting on some pics of light output on the road compaired with the conventional reverse lights...

I'm a fan of Umintza products (I want to get their fog light HID conversion kit myself...), but a HID kit for the reverse lights might not really be worth it, considering that the reverse lights generally aren't on for extended periods of time. Doesn't it significantly reduce the life of a HID bulb to turn it on for a short period of time and then turn it off again over and over?

If you're unhappy with the off-white color of your stock reverse bulbs, you can replace them with Polargs as somebody mentioned above, but I feel that my solution works a little better. Polargs eventually go off-white from what a few Org members who own them have told me. I used white LED clusters in my reverse lights for a sort of "poor man's HID" reverse light setup. I will take pics of the LED reverse lights tomorrow night and post them to show how nice they look. They are very nice and white, they should last much longer than conventional bulbs, they were cheap (less than $20 for BOTH), and they just pop into the stock bulb sockets.

 

I wanted to know if i can get HID's inside the car or use them as a side markers?

I have a rear-view camera and 5% tints. This would really help illuminate the rear at night.

 

do these HID produce a clean CUTOFF line??? i obviously don't want to put GLARE towards oncoming REVERSERS in the parking lot. oh, can umnitza hook me up with E36 projectors too for my reverse, because i want maximun output

Lets not get to crazy here. I think we should stick to the basic reverse HID angel eye fog lights with reverse indiglo.

Omg just put a "hyperwhite" bulb and you'll get the same affect. This is like a Kramer idea, I mean no one cares what color your lights are when you back up..Omg some people have too much time trying to come up with new useless crap..I can't wait for the HID spoiler light!!! Or the HID brake light! Let's not forget the HID under-car lights..


And I forgot...HID turn signals!!!! Because my hyperwhites just aren't bright enough to blind old ladies...

You know its awsome when you have someone with HIDs and they are behind you. Especially when the jacka*s has them pointing up and blinding the fudge out of you and your eyes hurt. But wait, now they can get reverse HID lights so they can stand in front of me and blind me from all directions. YAY!

 

Polargs or PIAAs... both work just fine. HID reverse lights? SHeeesh.

I don't think anyone is doubting the fact that HID reverse lights will be BRIGHTER than regular bulbs...Of course they will! I think what everyone is wondering is "why?". If for looks, well my Polarg's are perfectly white....and bright as hell, so I don't see the upside of HID reverse lights.

With all of unmnitza's lighting expertise ( ), once has to wonder why you're putting your efforts towards HID reverse lights rather than something more practical.

Considering that your reverse lights are on for only seconds at a time it doesn't seem worth it. They probably don't even have enough time to warm up by the time you are out of the driveway and on your way forward. And if you are familiar with K-turns (everyone who has a 5th gen is) you'll end up burning out you HIDs with the constant on/off switching.
If I was obsessed with HID and had the $$$ to burn I'd be all in, but my Polargs do just fine.

 

as in actually installing the DDE's, whether it be selling new housings with the DDEs (yes lots of money) or having people send you their housings for them to be installed. i know that brings up a whole new list of problems including liability...but i'm sure a lot more people would be rockin those angel eyes

How about something different, maybe redesigning some headlights for the 5th gens? Or maybe I dunno, I'm just tossing things out here...150 for hid reverse lights? wow...so yeah something new would be cool...but something that's not pointless and won't really be noticed like hid reverse lights...

They are not hard to install yourself. Why send your headlights to Matt when you can do them yourself in about 2 hrs.??

i imagine you could get a projector hid line going. i think a lot of 5 and 5.5 genners would go for that. if you are up to doing custom work, maybe other generations or maximas and whatever else comes your way.
