HELP ME PLZ!!! ...Slipping 2000 Tranny...

...ya it started slipping like crazy. If i drive my car right now, the 1-2 shift is pretty much normal, but the 2-3 is HORRIBLE. 3-4 is ok, not too bad. I just wanted to know what i can do fix this problem some other way besides rebuilding or swapping my transmission for a new one. the car has 67000 on it. if anyone has helpful input, i'd be thankful for it. Aleksey.

you need to replace the TCM (transmission control module)
it gets inputs from the ECU and sends the signal to the tranny to shift.
i actually have one sitting around. bought it for my old 2000 and it was only in for a few months before i totaled it. lemme know if you are interested.

get ready for a 5 speed swap... my 2k tranny blew not long after it was slipping. once first and second starts slipping, it'll all go downhill real fast from there.

as much as the 2-3 shift slps, the car is still very much driveable... is it ok for me to keep driving it for another week at least until i contact the dealer and try to get them to fix it since there is a TSB out for my problem? Also, does my car have to be BONE STOCK if i come to the dealer demanding hen to fix my tranny? thanks guys.

Just a quick question. Where did you get it reflashed? Also, how much does this cost?

only if you have warranty
the TSB tells the technician how to fix the problem
its diffirent from a recall (that is usually safety related) in which the dealership fixes the problem for free

2 to 3rd slip was really common amoung the first batch of 5th gens (i got one) and it was fixed with a new tcm.. that wasn't much of mechanical issue.. so that dind't cause huge problems.

but a first to second slip would mean your tranny is about toast.

wow you see right through my lies...

I never went to the dealer, complained about slipping. Get a call back later that day with them telling me I needed my TCM reflashed for $90. I said what? That car is still under warranty... Then they never said, "The TCM is not warrantied". Then I never called Nissan of North America about it and they never told me that it is warrantied, So I never called Nemith Nissan in Latham New York back and told them what Nissan said. They never shut the hell up and reflashed it for free. I never had my tranny fluid replaced because it was burnt and I have been driving around for 45,000 miles with a dead tranny....

I think maxtunning does it for $900 (no ABS), $1,000 (with ABS). that does not include parts.

upstatemax,
after you got the TCM reflashed was there any improvement? I had some issue with my tranny back in Nov but I was out of warranty. So I just flush the tranny fluid and replace it with Mobil syntheic ATF which did improve shifting. Now if this reflash does work I might want to go to the dealership to have this done.

yeah it shifted much better. You might want to look at your atf fluid again if it was slipping.

I would call nissan of north america, it MAY still be warrantied, I remeber they had an odd warranty on it. Have them reflash it, and I would change the fluid again just to be safe (if it is burnt).

so guys, let me get this straight... the first two steps i need to take if my tranny is slipping are:

1) TCM reflash
2) ATF flush and change for synthetic one

i will get to it early next week... are there any other steps i am missing? thanks.

ya'll sure you can reflash the TCM? i'm 99.99% sure that you cant reflash it or reset it.
i asked 4 diffirent dealerships and read the whole tranny section of the service manual.
thats why i bought a new TCM (which was the new one that was updated to fix the problem)

he means $2K to replace his tranny with a rebuilt tranny. basically a tranny that was bad on other persons car that they took and rebuilt.
a brand new tranny is around $4K

NOOO if you have never replaced it and have high mileage dont, besides if its slipping then its probably gonna go like mine just got mine back today from shop 1600 to rebuild it plus a year warranty, funny cause guy wrote on paper WARRANTY VOID IF TRANNY DAMAGED STREET RACEING, lol i thought i was gonna pee myself. My tranny started to slip at first, for like atleast two months and then one day wouldnt shift into third and the next day wouldnt shift into third, so had it rebuild i got the rings that are in the tranny back from shop. One of the rings if totally shredded and a couple others fcked up pretty bad, so go get it rebuild also, dont spend the 2000 on an automatic, you can get a 5spd and all the parts you need for that much!

lol, no I dont, however they told me thats what they did and it drove a million times better. And for only $90 that no way it has any new part attached to it, thats only labor baby. If they threw on a new part they would have told me $300.

I will call my two nissan dealers soon and see what they say....

I am almost positive you can re-flash a TCM, my now "old" 03 Saab 9-3 Vector (traded it in today ), it was re-flashed almost every week... one of the MANY reasons for getting rid of it.
