My MAF went bad a couple years ago. It was after I put in one of those K&N filters. I replaced with stock filter, had the dealer replace the MAF, they advanced the timing, and my 00 Max has run perfectly ever since. I need to time it again one of these days.

i realized that when i first change the MAF sensor on my maxima....the car felt like it was on nitrous.....just so smooth and fast. This only lasted for a couple of days and then the car turned back to normal and drove like how it did before.

Same with my 4 cyclinder 96 camry. When I changed the exhaust flex pipe. The car felt so smooth and quiet like an electric car. Then it went back to normal after a week or so. =/

OK Day 1 of new MAF - Car is running GREAT (smooth accel. + decel) and she holds idle like it's her job. If it goes back to the way it was before this in a couple of days like others' max's, Then I'm putting all my fireworks inside it and lighting them off. Thank you courtesy nissan for the new MAF - BUT it better keep on working.

Speaking of new mafs and how they felt. Anyone have a logical reason as to why a new maf would seem to add alot to the butt dyno but then after a week or so feel sluggish again. One thing I did notice at first was alot smoother shifting (A/T). But after a few weeks it just didn't have that get up and go like it did when I first threw the maf in, Since then I banged my head on trying to figure out why it would change? any input would be great. The only Idea I have is that it was running rich with the new one until it adjusted to it.

This makes sense. If old MAF was causing it to run lean, the computer had adjusted the parameters such that it was trying to add extra fuel for the amount of air that it was seeing coming in. But because of bad MAF, it was seeing less air than the one going in the combustion chamber. With new MAF, computer got correct mass air reading which will now result in extra fuel because of the heavy positive long term fuel trim value. Eventually, the computer will trim it back but until that time you will have great acceleration at the cost of running rich.

This would hold true if you were getting P0171 types of fuel injection lean
mixture MIL code. When you get those errors, your LTFT would over 30%

Does anybody sell only the sensor rather than the whole assembly? It should be cheaper that way, correct?

I think you can get the sensor by it self but I would just call DaveB, I got mine overnited for 100ish (from Texas to North Dakota). Also I have read that you should change out the whole tube and sensor. I don't know why but I think it might be that maybe they are tuned to the tube that they are sent in (just a theory).
