I use 5000-8000MCD and you can see them just fine in the daytime. I have had plenty of cops follow me and no problems.

I would go for something brighter then 4000mcs. The brighter the better, trust me.
Just spend a few dollars more and you will thank yourself later

True, but when speaking about how bright the bulbs are...the only way your going to show how bright they are is by pics.

I'm in the market for LED's as well, but without pics, I really cant tell which rating is good enough for me. Thats all!

By pictures you can't really judge since camera can fool your eye.
I had 8000mcds and were happy with them since Maxima tails are big and many LEDs can fit. For example, BMW 6 series has like 12000mcd+ if I'm not mistaken just for the reference.

Heres a tough one

Has anyone designed a custom LED tail? One that could replace the OEM unit completely? It seems to me that something like that would be far more effective as you could place many more LED's in them. And seeing as they are LED"s, I doubt they would draw more current than a standard incandescent...

Who would make something like this?

i think stillen made one. but it loox like azz. you would be much happier making a custom tail setup, and using quality products, design, and engineering. if i can get my hands on at least one side of a max taillight, i would like to mess with this myself. any1 have any year 5th gen tail to donate to my project?

An old org member made them last year for his 4th gen. they looked amazing, and everyone wanted a pair. but he didn't give us his secret.

and no, you can can judge the brightness of an LED by a picture... you HAVE to go by the mcd rating, and pray that it is the true MCD rating and they are not lying to you. (ebay)

what about picking this up?

Some people have expressed opinion about the chrome housing looking like crap, i would figure you could pull them apart and paint them if you really wanted to.
