keyless entry, auto dome light, lock switch all not working, HELP
I dont know if somthing shorted out or what. But The car turned off about 3 times and it seemed as if the battery had died. I go back out to the car and it started right up. But with keyless entry, auto dome light, lock switch all not working. Could it be the relay or should I try disconecting the battery. I need a little help. All input will help troubleshoot this.

Ok first of all I was able to find fuse # 13. Each fuse is numbered on the same panel were the fuse is put in. That fuse is not blown. And the rear defrost is not working.
Second I check every single fuse in the car and still none are blown. Nissan wants way to much to look for this problem. Do anybody have any sugestions?

Keyless entry, auto dome light, lock switch all not working, HELP
I'm having the same problem with my 2000 Nissan Maxima SE except my car is starting just fine. My power locks, keyless entry, rear defrost and interior lights are all dead. I have looked for the white plastic box with the three connectors (smart entrance control unit) that everyone talks about but I can not locate it. I did locate a tan box with two plugs which I think is the SECU. Am I the only one that thinks this tan box, which is located to the right of the steering column is the right part? Any help with this situation would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem over the summer. It was also draining my battery if the car sat for any amount of time.
It was the Smart Entrance Control Unit. It is a white box with 2 plugs IIRC. I have an exam today so I don't have time to search for the pics right now.
It is right under the steering column, and has a number on it that's something like 285-95 4y900 or something.
Can't recall exactly right now, but that seems to be your culprit.
$592 from Nissan, so try to find one in a part-out.

Does anybody know if the SECU from a Sentra will fit an 00 maxima SE? i cant post yet so i figured i do it this way. I know it is what my problems is because my keyhole light stays on all the time and drains my batt. Nissan said 90 just to diagnose but i got one from a junk sentra my uncle bought for parts, opened it and all is the same with no difference. im just thinking about swapping but just waiting for a response first thanks.

Where will it be
Where will the part number be.
on the sentra i couldnt pull the whole case out of the car so i opened it and pulled the circuit board out. NOw will the part number be on the case or somewhere on the circuit board thanks.

I had the same power lock, dome lights, keyless entry etc...problems several months back. I checked ALL the fuses and all of them ohmed good. Checked the relays and they were good too. Checked the voltages on the pinouts at the SECU and diagnosed it down to a bad SECU. As mentioned above, it's located below the steering column and on the right side. Mine was tan colored and had the part number on it. You can easily remove the SECU and get the correct part number, then look for same part number at an online yard. I found mine in WA and cost me $80 bucks. After that, it's easy to reprogram the keyfob. Just ask if you need help to verify the SECU pin voltages.

thanks 4 then quick response.
and i def know it is the secu because it leaves my keyhole light on for more than half an hour when it shoiuld only be on for 30secs therefore drainng my batt. i dnt have a keyfob so i guess am free and dnt need to program.
the questionn is will a SECU from sentra work on the maxima? everything is the same on the circuit board with no difference.
i cant verify part numbers bcos i cudnt remove SECU from supports so i opened it and took the circuit board.
i just wanna swap. Will it work?

to remove the SECU, just push down towards the floorboards and jiggle it a bit. It will work it's way off the metal bracket. You need to match the part numbers to answer your question.

Hey, I was changing the trunk light bulb and as I was putting it in, it flashed for a second and went out. Now the Keyless entry remote doesnt work, the key ring light, the door lock switch doesnt work unless the car is on, door step light and dome light do not work at all. Normally I would be able to turn on the headlights with the car off, now they turn on only when the car is on. First thought was a fuse? Will check them tomorrow, but if they turn out to be okay, then I would have to replace the SECU for sure? Thank you!!

Had this issue happen to me yesterday. Did you find anything out about this one?
Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the SECU to find which pins to test?

I have the same issue with my 2000 Maxima SE. I was messing with the fog lights and I guess I caused a short. Now my power locks, interior lights, rear defroster, key less entry doesn't work. I replaced the SECU and nothing. I purchased the SECU at a local junk yard today, so, I dont know if it's no good or it just didnt fix my issue. I'm gonna return it tomorrow, maybe exchange it and I'll let y'all know what happens...

So I had these same issues but had trouble finding a SECU at a local junkyard. I'm glad I didn't because...
THERE MIGHT BE AN EASIER WAY!!
****Try disconnecting the two plugs going into the SECU, waiting 5 seconds and then reconnecting them. After about a year of no interior lights, power door locks, and rear defrost.... they all work!! The first time I plugged them back in the horn started honking like the car alarm going off and again when I opened the trunk. So the second time I made sure the keys were in the ignition and turned to accessory, unplugged the plugs and reconnected them starting with the white plug first. After this I had no more alarms. Also, FYI I took off the kick panel under the steering wheel by removing two screws to make unplugging the unit easier.
This is the box that I assumed to be the SECU: Click the image to open in full size.
I found this thread: http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/maxim...defroster.html and thankfully tried unplugging it before buying a brand new unit from a dealer. Finally no more using a flashlight inside my car!

I tested the fuse with ohms meter. It's got power like it should where fuse plugs in to box. I am thinking it's the SECU. The SECU clicks when I hit the door locks or power windows. The power seats do not work either.

If that fusible link that Derrick2K2SE told you about (fuse # I) is truly good, then the circuit breaker for the windows and seats may be the problem. It is kind of rare that the circuit breakers go bad, but they can. Personally, I would try swapping that fusible link with one of the others as a test.
The circuit breaker is under the dash, somewhere behind the fuse panel. It looks like a relay with a black cover
