so far stillen is the only company to come out with em, ive never seen a pic of them light up but the design itself is quite poor. you can see all the leds and resistors(?) or what not (those little lines that connect everything). if it was behind a colored lens it would be better looking.

as far as taking the tail lights apart, as far as i am aware, no-one has suceeded in doing it.

Well, fawk it, I could could the rear half off using a dremel and simply glue it back together. As far as the leds showing are concerned, I'm not too worried about that since all I would need to do is paint the PCB.

I just need to find a donor set, now...

...any takers?

I took a pic of some LED tails for the 5th gen Maxima at SEMA that looked really nice. Looked just like 2k2-2k3 tails but with all red LEDs. I'll have to see if I can dig it up.

i'm pretty sure someone opened them up. It was the same as opening your headlight, but dont quote me. If I can remember...all ithink they said was that they were stuck together a little tougher.

Metal...I've been thinking about doing it too...looking for a cheap taillight from a junkyard though...don't wanna f up my SE tails. You would definitely have to dremel though to get the unit apart. After that just some basic LED, PCB board knowledge.

Hope the interior overhaul is going well...peace

Yea...I've thought about doing a pair for a while too now. Hopefully I'll finally get off my **** and try it out soon. X-mas really kinks funding though. What are you guys thinking for design of the led pattern. I personally think horizontal layers will look best. Tryed to envision a circular patter (skyline mimic) or something closer to the G tails but it would be so hard condsidering the differnce in housing design. Just curious what some of the other engineers out there were thinking. Let me know.

Curious on the tails...I would only need one tail for trial. And even if it is cracked, the original would just be a trial piece to sort out how reproduction would actually go. I didn't think that anyone would be willing to give up a set of SE tails though. That is the set that I would like to do the most. Please let me know if you still have them and are willing to sacrifice.

Make circles, not horizonal rows. I think this would work better on 2k2+ though.

Yea I'm glad you said that metal b/c I was just about to post regarding this. I don't want you to think that I am hi-jacking your thread or anything. I know a lot of other .orgers would get pissed in this situation but I'm glad that you can realize nobody is trying to "steal anyone's steam" here. I think that the more people who take a stab at it the better. This sort of a project is all about progression. Hopefully many will try and this will lead to a solid product. Just need a donor guys.....

Me personally, I want to read a little bit more about baking the enclosures in the oven myself as I have never tried this w/ the headlights. However, dremeling is still not such a bad option IMO. Don't know I want a set of tails in my hands before I really devise a gameplan.

So do LED's all get brighter with higher wattage, or do you have to get some sore of special LED's? I guess what Im asking is how you get the tails brighter with the brake.

I've wanted to make some LED tails for my Infin for some time now, but my knowledge of electrical systems is quite limited... Though I do like to play.

Absolutley, man. Besides, if someone does this before me, I can find a way to make it better.

Go for it, dude...I thought I was going to have some free time to do this soon...but I'm a ***** and have some projects that people need me to do for them.

Almost all 5mm LEDs are Vf @ 3.4v with a full output @ 20mA. Higher MCD FTW. Got it?
