2) how bout if i just get a rear section (Cattman Etc nothing Ricy) any tunning needed.
3) Im scared of blowing my maf ( i have a 2003)

Its hit or miss with the MAF, I've had my frankencar for about 30,000 miles and its still running strong, but I've heard of my fair share of problems. From what I've heard the 03's MAF's are better than 02's. As far as a cat back, you'll get some decent sound but you're prolly not gonna get much power if thats what youre looking for. You're better off going with a Y pipe or headers. If I do anything with my exhaust I'm just going with headers all the way back. I've never dynoed my car so I can't say if the car gained or lost HP with the intake, but you're prolly looking at 1 or 2 HP at most, but it does sound sweet!
Cat backs don't do much ... And the only way to know if you need to tune is ... yup, you guessed it
Dyno or get a WB o2 w/datalogger.
Headers are still the best all motor power mod evAr.

Blowing MAF's and using "CAI" or intakes I should say have gone hand in hand with many of the owners here on the .org. I have heard of more than one person carrying spare MAF's in the glove box due to them blowing almost every 6 months. Some people however have used the orginal MAF and still run it with their intakes and never had a problem. I've heard a lot of specualtion regarding the main cause of the MAF problem being excessive oil from the filter's dripping onto the sensor itself and destroying it. I guess that would be a maintenance call on your part. As far as tuning, what kind of tuning are you reffering too.
Also just as a side note, if you want my .02, stick with cattman throughout any exhaust system modifications. This is heavily recommended if you get a hard on from the tone of the G35 exhaust system. Although you won't match it exactly, you can get pretty close...hell, you've got the 3.5 already (one step closer than I) it's just a matter of adjusting components. Cattman is solid in the performance arena as well. If you are not buying in the next few weeks I should have a pretty extensive video comparison of our stock exhaust v. stock G exhaust v. cattman components on max.

i not really looking for power im just dressing up my car for right now. i guess i'll just go with a rear section plus my max was handed down from my mom its automatic
(the power is for a 98 540 6spd with an M5 kit on HRE's oh yea )

yea get my some clips makdaddy.............The intake on the other hand is another story
ive herd so much of them blowing and its soo expensive thats y i really dont want to mess with the intake

Since you only want it for flash and not power, get the rear piece.. that's a no branier since no one will be looking under your car at the b-pipe, or at least they shouldn't be.
As for intake, why get one if you're not really into power? For looks? The AEM CAI is the shiniest ... but not good for power production oh yeah I forgot power production =

I have an '02 Max and am also looking to replace the exhaust. Already installed a Frankencar intake w/ Apexi filter (read the posts about the oiled filters possibly causing MAF failure). From researching the posts, it doesn't seem like a Y-pipe produces much hp gain on the '02 cause the pre-cats aren't located there as on previous years. Is that correct? I need to replace Y-pipe, and cat-back...any suggestions for fit, sound, performance?

Cattman y-pipes typically fit well and are stainless steel, same for their cat-back. The Frankencar cat-back fits well and is a quality product as well.
For sound, check out the exhaust sound clip Sticky and decide for yourself what sounds "good".

mainly just deeper, it does not really get raspy till you throw on headers.

you will get a lot closer to the G35 sound if you start with either headers or a y pipe. Headers being the most influential in SQ followed by a y pipe if the headers aren't the road you want. Then move down the exhaust system to the rear in that sequence. The G35 is much more of a "euro" sound than raspy in my opinion. Very clean, and obviously deeper than stock max, but raspy in my opinion is such a neg word for the sound. Reminds me of weezing or trying to hard for air. Sorry, anyways start at the block and move back v. rear sect. first. My .02. O, and STICK WITH CATTMAN.
