I would personally keep the stocks. The blacked out tails look best on the darker colors, in my opinon. Not that they'd look bad...just not as good as the 02-03's.

VHT Niteshades, and yes I did. Once cleared, they will look even better. Will probably do 2 more coats prior to that.

i prefer the black 00-01 SE tails over the all red or the 02/03. doesnt matter the color of the car.

1 of my requirements if i bought an 02/03 was to keep my 00 stock tails and swap them.

black on light blue 00....

black on silver 00....

I'll trade, send me an e-mail.

I agree that the chromes look better on light cars and the black ones on dark cars.

I'd keep 5.5 Tails and smoke them like the ones Deckout2 Has. Looks hot!!!
Although I hated 5.5 lights before cause they always remind me altezas. If you compare the pics posted above u'll see that 5.5 lights makes rearlook more massive open-minded. And 5sen lights simplifies rear and makes it cheap, even SE light have the same effect. just my O2

Hey guys thanks for all the input.

Not too big of a fan of the Nightshades tint on the taillights... well at least on lighter cars I would think. From a rear broad side angle it looks as though the lenses are fogged up.

For now i'll probably stick with the stock 02/03's and most likely keep them as is... not too big of a fan in the all red 02/03 tails as well. You can tell there's still that amber lens plus the brake reflective pattern is somewhat different than the turn signal pattern -- not my style.

Anyways not flaming anyone but to each his own right? Keep on with the input it was a great help for me. Thanks again guys.

I think it really depends on the color of the car. The white 00'-01' looks like crap with the black housing, but a black 00'-01' looks good with it. IMO that is.

That's just cause it has 0 clear on it. Once cleared, it will flow very nicely. I'll post pics when I get that done. I'm sure you'll be fine with whatever you choose to go with.

For Sheer Silver, I think the chrome housings with clear lens look best....but the clear lenses with red bulbs don't work well at all. The lights looked pink and were very difficult to see with direct sunlight on the back of the car. I decided to put the stock 02-03 lights back on and painted the amber blinkers red and acually like it on the Sheer Silver.

So my vote is for the all red 02-03 stockers.

I'm looking to buy an '02 SE white but I much prefer the dark tails (guess I'm the only one). The stock '02 look like tinfoil/ricey to me.

If I get an '02, then I guess I have to buy or swap for '01 tails - Is That right?

Thanks

I do like Xvert's tails! Those are nice. What steps did you do in order to get that affect? Did you simply spray a light layer of NightShades? I would consider doing the same that looks very professional.

ok here are the steps...

you take a pic of rykat's car (which is very hot)

you open it with photoshop

you select the tails with lasso tool

make a copy

then select the red circle

make a copy

then go back to the full tail light layer, then go to > image > adjustments > brightness and contrass and tune down the brightness

is that easy enough? lol

Like others have said, it really depends on what look you are going for.

In my oppinion the chromed housings suggest more of a luxury look while black is more sporty. After I cleared my headlamps I ended up opening them up again and painting them black. It definitely gives a more sporty look and I would have it no other way. In fact I actually painted my fogs shortly after to match.

My .02... Go with the black SE tails and definitely paint your headlamps. It would look killer, especially on your color.

I figured i'd add my .02 to this thread. I started with the 02-03's with the lower half painted red. Liked that for 30 minutes till someone asked where I got Altezza's for my Maxima. I then used night shades to tint them.

Pics:

Red/Clear

Smoked:

you mean these? all you need is to put some tower led bulbs in there, its not pink, its actually really red, its really bright and tight looking at night. only thing is its hard to see during the day but its definitely worth it. i just ordered led ambers for the front turn signals and have the red led turn signals for the back, bought some regulator to control the led blinking rate. this will do until metal maxima and macdaddy finish their led tail projects

I agree. The light cars look better with the chrome tails. But if you do the swap from the 2k-2K1 SE to the 2k2-2k3 SE, it also looks better if you swap the emblems, as well, (if you happen to keep them on your car). The smoked emblems do not clash with the chrome tails. HerBlue2kSE, have you changed the emblems, as well? If not, I think it would clash better with the tails. I have a 2k SE, and here is a pic of mine....I changed all the emblems, including the hamburger. Enjoy!

I did not swap the lettering or emblems. Pic shows it as it sits. I wanted to remove the lettering but my better half likes them on the car. How long they will remain is the question

Actually seeing your car with the newer emblems gives me more ideas....

I doubt that the chrome part could be smoked out. It's nearly impossible to take the tail lights apart without ruining them. Believe me, if it was possible, I believe everyone would definitely clear out the amber signal.

i like that look

but imo for a silver car the chrome ones will look better cuz the color blends more together than the black se ones but ya like most people say...if you have a dark color car black tails look nice but with lighter color cars the chrome look better.

i was about to get some black se ones a while back untill i saw one in person and i didn't really like how the black or red tails looked on a white car...so i'm sticking with the stock chrome ones
