Also, I've seen a couple of maximas on here with the 02-03 OEM headlights with the silver painted black, and one person referred to "opening up" the lens to paint this part. How is this done without destroying the seal and letting water in?

do you mean this?

i bought the red overlay from batman a while back but i decided to take it off and just left it clear haha

as for the headlight part seal it back up using the nissan oem sealant...the thing they use that bonds the tail lights to the body of the car. that works great.

Now for the 2002-2003 bulbs. The turn signal is a changed to a 7440 single filament bulb, the brake lights are still 7443, and the reverse lights are still 912 or 921 bulbs. Ive seen those numbers interchanged for some reason.

NOW THE issue is THAT THE TAIL LIGHTS SOLD ON EBAY ARE PATTERNED AFTER THE 2002-2003 MODEL CARS. THE TAIL LIGHTS WILL FIT PHYSICALLY, AND FIT PERFECTLY. But you need to get whats called the "tail light wiring sockets for the 2002". I got mine from the dealership. I paid like 28 bucks for each harness. They are plug N' play with the 2000-2001 maximas SO FITMENT IS NOT AN ISSUE

i forget what the exact part number is, i should still have the boxes laying around some where ill find em if u need me to
i think he would need to get the wiring harness for an 00-01 maxima since he has an 02 maxima. but ya they're plug and play. it's just a pain in the butt to take the tail lights out cuz they're bonded to the car pretty well haha i suggest do it on a sunny afternoon when the car's been outside for a while. sort of helped for me

Any other places besides a dealership that would have the wiring harness?

Yeah, PM Me if/when you find a part number.
thanks

That looks pretty good with the white, although mine being sunlit sand, I think I'd just stick with my stock silvers.

Thanks for the help, tho!

There's alot of cool ideas on here! I'm hoping to get an 02/03 SE in the spring, but I really hate the altezza-style taillights. Does anyone know if the black trim on the 01 tails can be removed? Then it would be easier to paint them body colour. I'd love the look of red/clear 01 se tails with body-coloured trim, especially in dark blue!

So I just spoke with the local dealership's parts dept. I asked if the wiring harness on the 02 tails could be used on the 01 tails. He said, "Let me check my computer." Uh, OK.

Evidently his computer tells him that yes the 02 wiring harness will fit the 01 housing.

I hate waiting so if I'm going to order the 01 SE tails I don't want to get them then have to order and wait for a wiring harness for them.

So, can somone confirm that this is infact correct. 02 SE tails wiring harness will fit on 01 SE tails?
thanks

BTW - The reason I ask is because some one had to order a harness from the local dealer and i'm not sure why if these fit in the first place.

no they will NOT FIT............YOUR GONNA NEED THE 2000 - 2001 WIRING HARNESS....i havent had a chance to post the part number because ive been out of town, and my car is back home. But im just getting back in town and i had to have my pads and rotors changed to some after markets

the 2002 wiring harness will not work with the 2001 housing simply because the bulbs for the stop/brake light, and the turn signals are DIFFERENT, but the reverse light remains the same

i go and pick my car up in a couple hours, seeing as how i have a 2001 and you have a 2002. i have the harness for the 2002. and u need the harness for the 2001.

I CAN LOOK AT THE HARNESS DIRECTLY AND TELL U THE EXACT PART NUMBER if one exists

but i can also check a site i used to cross refrence

I spoke to another dealer about 15 miles away. He too said it'd probably fit although the only difference is that for 01 Housings made between Jan - June 2001 the 02 harness would not fit. For housings made after June 01 that the housing would fit fine...

They tell me that it'd take 2 days to order so I can live with that i guess but I just wish I knew for certain.

Don't stress if you can't find the part number. BTW - Where did you get your 01 TAils? I'm looking at an eBay auction and the seller has not replied to either of my two messages inquiring about this...

I've spent all my christmas $ on my car. I just bought a pair of black tails. I should have them hopefully by Friday.

I'll Probably tint my windows next month and maybe if I'm lucky I'll get some DDE's in March. Otherwise I think I'm done...

We'll see if the 02 housing fits. I'll keep you posted.

i have altezza ALL clear tails, they are modded after the 2k2 tail lights, so i needed the adapter. I have a couple pics back on page 4 or 5 of this thread. A pic with the stock all red tails, and a pick of the all clear altezza style aftermarkets. alotta people on here DONT like em, but hey its my car and i like them I HAVE GOTTEN SOME compliments about them on the street

and about the harness, mine ARE NOT LABELED. I tried to find the site where they have a lot of nissan replacement parts, with the NISSAN PART NUMBERS, AND SMALL DIAGRAMS. but i cant seem to locate it

I think the lighter cars look good with the clear rear talights and the darker looks good with the black/smoke. I like the black on the white cars though, so I guess it depends on the exact color. Have a Gray Maxima and want to get rid of the Red and change for the Black. Anybody want to swap?

I considered getting these talights. Do you like them? Did you have the Red before? I like the ones you bought, just wish the silver back area was black. Recently put JDM halos on my car with the black inside and want to get some new rears.
Nice ride

Where did you get these taillights that match the Sterling Mist paint? My max came with the same ones when I bought it but I haven't seen another set of these painted taillights?

Black tails look gross on silver cars. The point of swapping older SE tails is for a darker look to match darker paint. Keep the stockers so you don't look rice.

I think it also depends on trim level I have a '02 gle with the clear housing, but i saw a '02 se with black housing both of us had the merlot color, i think it depends on what you like if your going for the more sporty look or the sport luxury look. I also think it depends on interior colors as well. but i never like the tail lights on the '00 year that red color, i think it mad the car look plan especially with those stock rims.

Does anyone have a GOOD write up with pics and instructions on opening up 02-03' tails. I need to know exactly where to cut cause I dont want to mess them up at all.

I want to color the amber signal red, and paint the inside silver/gray color a glossy black to match my car. I think it would look really good. (Plus I would keep the silver ring aroung the brake/signal) I have seen someone do this but I havent seen many pics of it. thanks-

I have the chrome tail lights, at first I really hated them. Then, I got the windows tinted and now they really look a lot better on the car. Besides, I also have chrome in the headlights and plan to add some wheels with some chrome accents, so, I think in the end, they will look good.

If my car was black, I'd go black head/tails in a heart beat.
