Driver's side HID mostly dead. Please help
Hey all,
I have a 2002 Max.
Driver's side head light is out...mostly. It flickers like it's trying to turn on, but never turns on. Passenger side headlight works fine. All other lights, interior and exterior work fine. No battery light on dash.
Any ideas?
Alternator? Battery? Bulb? Ballast?
Thanks everyone,
vin

have you tried swapping the bulbs from the drivers to the passenger? if it flickers only on the drivers side, then you know its not the bulb...but if you swap the bulb and it starts flickering on the passenger side, then most likely its the bulb
oh yeah, if you find out the bulb is the culprit, then I suggest buying upgraded D2r bulbs....i heard OEM costs alot...you can pick up Umnitza Prolumen 6000k for like $140 shipped I believe....looks real nice too

Stick to OEM bulbs, do not buy the aftermarket 6000K junk. Friend of mine bought them from a "sponsor" here on the .org and it lasted bout 6 months and burned out- also melting the connector. I belive OEM bulbs are made by Osram or Phillips- as they are the LEADING suppliers to all OEM HID applications. We get 99 TLs in for service all the time, and they still have all original HID components on them down to the bulbs. Let me know if you are in need of some OEM bulbs, I have quite a few of them laying around.
Thanks for all the replies.
Great idea steven88. I will try and swap the bulbs and see what happens.
I will be away for the weekend so I'll have to do it when I get back. yay for skiing
BlackBIRDVQ, I'll let you know if I will be requiring some bulbs.
Thanks again everyone

thats weird,
because my cousin has a 2k2/2k3 headlights on his 2k1 maxima, with 2k2/2k3 OEM hids, and he got into the accident last winter, he rear ended the car, and he broke his right headlight, HID didnt break, so he drove to work with a broken headlight, it snowed in the headlight, it snowed a lot. He came home that day and he just cleaned the snow from the headlight, and he turned his HIDs on, and they're workign fine. Its unbelievable, HIDs are really strong bulbs. BTW, if anyone has only right 2k2/2k3 headlight to sell for my cuz's car, let me know

You will lose output!
5000K has an approximately 3200lm output, which is more than 3x the light output of the traditional halogen light and is the color temperature with the most output.
6000K has an approximately 2800lm output, which is 3x the light output of the traditional halogen light and slightly less light output compared to the 5000K.

Hey all,
I finally got around to swapping the bulbs. Seems like it's not the bulb. The "dead" bulb worked on the passenger side.
So I swapped the headlights themselves. Drivers side light does not work with passenger side connector.
Thus, methinks it is the driver's side ballast that is bad.
Any suggestions on where to get one? How much will Nissan charge me for one?
Thanks everyone,
vin

ok...i figured it out.
the connection between the headlight and the ballast was corroded. there are 4 or 5 pins in the ballast, and one is corroded and broken off in the connector. So i will need a new ballast.
the new problem is that i now have a broken pin stuck inside the connector. any tips/ideas on how to get it out? or do I need a new headlight all together? or can i splice the wires if i get a new connector. i didnt look inside to see how those wires are connected inside the housing.
or does extended warranty cover it?
thanks
